Dozens of vessels stranded in Djibouti as Houthis ‘set new rules’ in Red Sea

The US Central Command reports that over 10 hours, 12 one-way attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land attack cruise missiles launched by the Houthis have been successfully neutralized by the US military. This has led to significant disruptions in business, with a nearly 35 percent reduction in the number of ships transiting the Bab al-Mandab strait. Consequently, numerous vessels have been stranded for six days, uncertain about when they will receive clearance to depart. The Houthis are imposing new regulations, demanding assurances from every passing ship that they have no connections with Israel—neither heading to nor departing from Israeli ports, and not owned by Israelis. Netanyahu in ‘extreme jeapordy’: Analysis

The ongoing Israel-Gaza war has destroyed Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s image as “Mr Security”, with many Israelis holding him responsible for the attacks, analyst Ahmed Helal has said. “The Israeli public is furious and they’re frustrated that their security apparatus let them down and then they are unable to kill the upper echelons of Hamas leadership like Yahya Sinwar [Hamas leader in Gaza],” Helal, Director of MENA region at Global Counsel, told Al Jazeera. “There are no clear wins in this war.” Helal said the lack of preparation for the Hamas offensive on October 7 has put Netanyahu in “extreme jeopardy”, potentially ruining his political career, and leaving him susceptible […]

The Houthi fighters launch a missile : Attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea

Houthi attacks on tankers passing through the narrow strait of Bab Al Mandab that connects the Gulf of Aden to the Red Sea, have disrupted one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. Houthis say they are targeting vessels linked to Israel in a show of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. But countries in the region are worried the escalation is disrupting business and could drag them into a wider conflict. Intense fighting continues along Israel-Lebanon border

Also, there were a couple of air raids at greater depth, about 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the border. Meanwhile, there were several attacks and artillery bombardment, which we witness on an hourly basis, towards the open areas in Naqoura and towards the eastern and central sectors of southern Lebanon. Israel’s Netanyahu heckled inside parliament by families of Hamas captives

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been heckled and booed by the families of captives held by Hamas in Gaza during an address to parliament. “Now! Now!” the families chanted from the gallery on Monday when Netanyahu promised to bring the captives home but added that he had been told by Israeli field commanders that “more time” was needed. Israel says 129 captives are still held in Gaza. Three of them were mistakenly killed by Israeli forces this month. Netanyahu’s address came after his Likud party reported that he visited the Gaza Strip on Monday and promised to ramp up Israel’s assault there. Al Jazeera’s Alan Fisher reports from the […]

Israel to ‘certainly pay’ for killing senior general: Iranian president

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi says Israel “will certainly pay” for the killing in Syria of a senior general with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. “Without a doubt, this action is another sign of frustration, helplessness and incapacity of the usurping Zionist regime [Israel] in the region,” Raisi said in a statement. Sayyed Razi Mousavi held the rank of major general and was in charge of a “resistance support unit” in Syria, Iran said. Sources told Al Jazeera three Israeli missiles hit the building where he was staying, killing him instantly. Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem is in Naqoura in Southern Lebanon for more about this.
