Why is the US reinforcing military assets in the Middle East?

The United States has deployed two aircraft carriers and fighter jets to the Middle East during Israel’s war on Gaza. It is reportedly moving more warships from the Arabian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden to deter Houthi attacks on the Red Sea. US military aid has allowed Israel to continue its wholesale destruction of Gaza unhindered, ensuring that Hamas’s allies are suitably intimidated and deterred from taking any military action. Why does Israel keep the bodies of Palestinians?

Dozens of Palestinian bodies have been confiscated by Israel in the occupied West Bank, since the war began on October 7. Human rights organisations fear that many more are being taken away from Gaza and they may not be returned like several others whose remains have not been returned for years by Israeli authorities. UK’s David Cameron, Germany’s Annalena Baerbock back ‘sustainable ceasefire’ in Gaza

UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock have issued a joint call for a “sustainable ceasefire” in Gaza. In an op-ed published in the Sunday Times on Sunday, Cameron and Baerbock said that “too many civilians have been killed” in Gaza and the war “cannot drag on and on”. “Israel has the right to defend itself but, in doing so, it must abide by international humanitarian law,” Cameron and Baerbock said. “Israel will not win this war if its operations destroy the prospect of peaceful co-existence with Palestinians. They have a right to eliminate the threat posed by Hamas. But too many civilians have been killed.” […]
