No bread or water bottles to be found anywhere… frustration was replaced by hope…rolls substitute bread and tea and soda replace bottled water…we survive. God is good and water is fixed and we have lights and peace and beauty found in glorious weather today…food for my team, fuel for my car, and health for my family, work to cover bills that will be high… and I am thankful that God provides. I pray for all those less fortunate.

@Hankakah no, I am just stating a fact. I am tired of seeing so many people blame TX for voting republican, especially when more us vote democrat than many so called “blue” states that look down on us. Maybe that’s not what you intended to do, but it’s so commonly done, that it can be easy to assume that’s what you meant. Especially after Hurricane Harvey… The majority of the people effected lived in democratic districts, but people see that Houston is in Texas, and Texas is notorious for being “red,” so they somehow deserved it. We used to be a blue state, and even had a Democratic Governor in the 90s. Even today, after her passing, I still hear nothing but positive things about her. But it would seem as though once Bush became governor, the districting and gerrymandering made it harder and harder for Democrats to be elected. More people voted Democrat in 2020, than people voted for Republican in 2016, and that’s with a pandemic, with no COVID related mail in votes. Politicians who supposedly “represent” us claimed voter fraud, but when investigate, the fraud discovered involved their own party.
As for blaming democrats for allowing the GOP to be in power… …how much campaigning do they do for national elections? They are so positive that TX will vote red that they don’t even bother to waste their time and money. I knew many democratic voters during the Bush and Obama era that didn’t even bother voting because they thought it was a waste of time. Their guy wouldn’t win even if they had voted. Are they wrong? The person I vote for NEVER wins my district, ever. But this year was the FIRST time I actually saw Texas related ads supporting Biden. That meant a lot to me. Not a generic one, but actually addressing Texans and their issues. Sadly, it wasn’t until way later, after early voting, did they actually decide to participate in a campaign tour in the state. And then those treasonous morons tried to run Harris off the road. The party finally tried, and may reconsider due to the attempted assassination. Yeah, that’s what I’m considering it to be. The party needs to look at our 2020 numbers and determine whether or not it’s worth the risk.

I’m an independent and I’ll vote for whoever is better for the country and state not what party they are from. People are voting for party, when they should be voting their conscience.
I do think though that many Republicans will now see that THEY need to vote for someone else, and with the Democrats, Independents and some Republicans, they can actually elect someone that is GOOD for their State. For Griddy users, after enjoying days/months/years’ extremely low (wholesale) electricity price, this sudden high price is exactly what they signed up for. Same applies to winterization – it’s about money, cost and electricity bill. No one wants to pay and invest for such low-prob events in advance. But, No free lunch. The bad thing is – when something like this happened, resort to government rescue — it’s all about tax payer’s money. Failing to plan and invest into the risk ends up with being paid by other tax payer’s $$$. This has been occurring again and again in different scenarios.

When the electric companies made the decisions to shut off the electricity just to save their equipment, they made a life and death decision. People died. The electric companies are responsible. They just didn’t want to see their transformers pop. Otherwise, it would cost them money to replace them all. Cheaper to pull the plug then to replace them.

The utilities must pay for the record-breaking damages, insurance claims and emergency relief costs because the utilities failed to winterize as recommended by FERC and the state’s best practices rules 10 years ago. This is directly analogous to the PG&E liability litigated for fire damages caused by windblown shorts of overhead transmission lines after a history of incidents.
Why should utility customers pay for extraordinary power costs but the utilities should not be liable for damages from grossly negligent planning for cold weather? The fact is that despite several cold snaps and one huge power failure 10 years ago that caused FERC to issue a report with warnings to winterize power supplies, utilities took the same variable liability choice that is causing consumers $thousands in power bills. Stop price gouging and pay your damages bills Oncor, American Electric Power Texas, Austin Energy, Entergy, CenterPoint Energy and the rest of the utilities that short sheeted your customers. Instead of holding the utilities liable for their lack of winterized assets, now the Gov., Lt. Gov. and Fox want to fraudulently blame the utility-caused negligent homicides on Democrats and wind turbines.

A quick check on Texas law looks like price gouging is indeed illegal in Texas. And if the definition is correct it looks like the power companies are in violation of the law.

I escaped California 3 years ago to move to Texas. It has been Great. Love Texas. My normal fixed power bill is less expensive than my outrageous PG&E bills I use to get in California. A gallon of milk is $1.69 and a dozen eggs is $1.69 @ Aldi’s. Gas is $2.00 a gallon. Texas will fix this problem and I hope these people paying outrageous power bills will switch their provider to a fixed rate instead of a variable rate. Just an FYI I am in shorts and t shirt today. That was a freak cold front.

People knew what they signed up for when they picked variable rate plan. His avg bill is about 4000 KWh and was paying about $200 a month, enjoying cheap rates. My bill monthly is about $100 for a 1000-1300 KWh. He knew what was coming when he picked variable rate plan. And now complaining. Sorry but no sympathy you folks who picked variable rate plan over fixed.
