Biden did not stop oil production on U.S. soil. He did not cancel existing leases on federal lands, he stopped issuing additional new leases on federal lands. The oil companies don’t need more leases on federal lands. The oil companies have leases on 26 million acres of federal lands, approximately 50% of the leases on federal lands are being used. The oil companies own land and lease land from states and private land owners. Approximately 25% of the oil in the U.S. comes from federal lands. Leases and pipelines are not the reason gas prices have become higher. We have enough oil. Biden asked the oil companies to increase production.

The cause of higher prices is primarily related to the pandemic. Demand for oil declined in 2020 and 2021, the oil companies reduced production, reduced their workforce, and 5 or 6 oil refineries closed.
The oil companies have explained why they can’t instantly increase production. There is a shortage of needed supplies and they need to hire skilled employees and the refineries need to increase production. (Plus, the oil companies may be price gouging to make up for what they lost in 2020 and 2021. Their profits remain high.)

Biden’s energy goals are part of a long range plan, earliest goal is by 2027, other goals are expected to be accomplished by 2050.
The goals:
1. 100% carbon pollution-free electricity (CFE) by 2030, at least half of which will be locally supplied clean energy to meet 24/7 demand;
2.100% zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) acquisitions by 2035, including 100% zero-emission light-duty vehicle acquisitions by 2027;
3. Net-zero emissions from federal procurement no later than 2050, including a Buy Clean policy to promote use of construction materials with lower embodied emissions;
4. A net-zero emissions building portfolio by 2045, including a 50% emissions reduction by 2032;
and
5. Net-zero emissions from overall federal operations by 2050, including a 65% emissions reduction by 2030.
Biden also directed the federal government to orient its procurement and operations efforts in line with the following principles and goals:
1. Achieving climate resilient infrastructure and operations;
2. Building a climate- and sustainability-focused workforce (more jobs);
3. Advancing environmental justice and equity;
4. Prioritizing the purchase of sustainable products, such as products without added perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); and
5. Accelerating progress through domestic and international partnerships.
Biden’s executive action is a part of the President’s broader commitment to increasing investments in America’s manufacturing industries and workers to build back our country better. By transforming how the federal government builds, buys, and manages its assets and operations, the federal government will support the growth of America’s clean energy and clean technology industries, while accelerating America’s progress toward achieving a carbon pollution-free electricity sector by 2035.
President Biden’s executive order demonstrates how the United States government will lead by example to provide a strong foundation for American businesses to compete and win globally in the clean energy economy while creating well paying, union jobs at home.

There are also over 10,000 drilling permits that have been issued to oil companies, which have yet to be used, at a time when record breaking profit margins are being reported thanks to high prices and overheated demand — on top of the fact that almost 90% of drilling is done on private property and not public lands that require a permit. The ability to create more supply is not the problem as much as it is the refusal to do so by domestic oil companies.
As for his comments on Israel, it wasn’t Biden who officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, moved our embassy there, and shrugged at Netanyahu asserting his claims on the Golan Heights.
