At the ASEAN meetings in Phenom Penh, US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan has overshadowed the gathering.
ASEAN foreign ministers warned that the risk of miscalculation in the Taiwan Strait could lead to confrontation among the major powers.
The United States has described China’s military response in the Taiwan Strait as a “significant escalation”, while China has warned the US against creating a bigger crisis.

If you actually listen to the US double talk, then you’d understand why China is angry. The US says that it has a one-China policy and that Taiwan is not an independent country. That means Taiwan is part of China. Yet the US treats Taiwan as though it’s independent and actually arms Taiwan against China “to maintain the status quo.” The status quo keeps China and Taiwan separate. But China doesn’t want the status quo because it’s main goal is the reunification of China and Taiwan. A US policy of maintaining the status quo directly interferes in China’s internal affairs because it frustrates peaceful reunification and leaves reunification by war as the only option. Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was a slap in the face of China because she reaffirmed the US intention to keep meddling in China’s internal affairs regarding Taiwan. Then Blinken added insult to injury by saying that China has nothing to be upset about because the US is not meddling in China’s internal affairs any more than it has done in the past. After Taiwan is destroyed in a war they can’t win, they will be forgotten as Pelosi goes back to fighting for her right to have an abortion at 80 years old and Biden continues reminiscing about black kids in a swimming pool playing with the wet hair on his nasty legs 65 years ago.
