Russia and Ukraine conducted a major and unexpected prisoner swap on Wednesday involving almost 300 people, among whom were 10 foreigners, as well as Ukrainian commanders who defended Mariupol in early 2022, marking the largest exchange between the two sides since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.
The deal on Wednesday was reached with the help of Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
In the exchange, Russia released 215 Ukrainians, which included a large number of Azov fighters who sought to defend a besieged steel plant in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol for months, before the group evacuated from the city in May in surrender to pro-Russia forces.
In return, Ukraine released 55 Russians and pro-Moscow Ukrainians and Viktor Medvedchuk, the leader of a banned pro-Russian party, who was facing treason charges.

Amazing🤕, let’s hope for the best for two country.
Turkey becoming stronger in world stage and this ukrainian kid leader …
This Ukrainian “kid leader” is making Putin look like the dumbest person in the world day after day. This war will be studied for generations. “How not to overestimate your and underestimate opponent’s capabilities 101”
@Aboleo80 whats the point of destroying his own country ukrain by a war which he could have avoided. Russia started the war simply because it cant afford to accept Nato expanding to its door step ukrain and it was a correct decision too. ukraininans should have known how to live neutrally than being puppet of the west. Actually they have a puppet leader who takes them to death speaking empty sugar coated patriotic words
@Thomas Sissay Putin has said many times that Ukraine has no right to exist and that Ukrainian nation doesn’t exist. This war has very little to do with NATO expansion and more with Russian imperial expansion that is still ongoing hundreds of years after it started. NATO has clear membership requirements that Ukraine wouldn’t be able to meet probably ever as long as territorial issues with Russia remain and Putin is well aware of that.
Thank you Saudi Arabia
The real reason why Putin wages war in Ukraine
Putin knows very well the dangers of the value of democracy to his autocratic rule. Putin witnessed for himself how the Berlin Wall fell and all autocratic regimes in the member states of the Warsaw Pact collapsed and the USSR was split into 15 countries in 1990s just because of democratic values attacks.
Putin knows that the only door for democratic values to penetrate into the hearts of the majority Russian people is through the Ukrainian people, because those two nations have a close historical relationship in the past and both nations citizens have intense interaction.
Therefore, Putin will do everything possible to prevent Ukraine from becoming a democratic and successful nation because a democratic and propherous Ukraine surely will be a serious thread to Putin autocratic reign
Do more research..thats all you can say i want more..very elementary explanation..dig more deeper may be some other reason why russia go on to ukraine.
@FILOS AS ONE that is my conclusion after reading the complete history of Russia and Ukraine as follows:
Overview of the Historical Ties of Ukraine and Russia
1) The origins of the Russian race are nomads from the Vangarian Tribe, matoritas from Sweden, who are known to like to travel by rowboat across the Baltic sea and rivers.
2) The Vangarians then mostly settled on the shores of Lake Ilmen, Northern Russia. The area was named Novgorod. The Vangarians who settled in Novgorod were called the Rus. The livelihood of the Vangarians was trade connecting the Baltic and Byzantines through the rivers that connected the Baltic Sea with the Black Sea. Some of the Vangarians were also famous for working as body guards for the Byzantine aristocrats.
3) In 862CE, a man named Rurik (824-879) was made ruler of Novgorod. The descendants of Rurik are called the Rurik Dynasty.
4) At the end of the 9th century AD, a descendant of the Rurik dynasty named Oleg of Novgorod (879–912) moved from Novgorod with his followers and conquered a new area that had previously been controlled by Askold and Dir. In the new area was established a kingdom called Kievan-Rus with its capital in Kiev. Thus Oleg of Novgorod descendant of the Rurik dynasty was the founder of the Kievan-Rus empire.
5) The number of kings in the Kingdom of Kievan-Rus was 14. Starting from Oleg the Prophet (Reign: 862-879), Sviatoslav I (Reign 962-972), Vladimir the Great (Reign 980-1015) , Yaroslav the Wise ( Reign 1019-1054), and finally Sviatopolk II (Reign 1093-1113).
6) During the time of Sviatoslav I (Reign 962-972), Kievan-Rus began to expand its territory. Sviatoslav I expanded his territory to the east and south, which led to the collapse of the two great powers of Eastern Europe, the Khazaria and the First Bulgarian Empire. He also conquered many East Slavic tribes, defeated the Alans and attacked the Volga Bulgars, and sometimes allied with the Pechenegs and Magyars (Hungary).
7) In the time of Vladimir the Great (Reign 980-1015), the economy prospered under him. He minted coins and arranged foreign affairs with other countries, such as trade, bringing Greek wine, Baghdad spices, and Arabian horses for the Kiev market. His greatest legacy is establishing Orthodox Christianity as the official state religion. In honor of Vladimir The Great, the Eastern Orthodox churches celebrate the feast of St. Volodymyr on 15/28 July every year.
8) During the time of Yaroslav the Wise (Reign 1019-1054), Kievan-Rus reached its Golden-Age . Its territory stretches from the Black Sea in the south to the White Sea in the north. And from the west from the headwaters of the Vistula river in Poland to the Taman Peninsula in the east Yaroslav the Wise enforced Russkaya Pravda (the first East Slavic Code of Law), built Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kiev and Saint Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod, protected clergy and monasticism, built school system, etc
9) After the last king Sviatopolk II (Reign 1093-1113), the Kingdom of Kievan-Rus began to disintegrate because of the internal rivalry of the descendants of the Rurik dynasty who wanted to rule each other. Beginning with the result of the agreement that the Council of Liubech broke up (1097), Kievan Rus began to split into three small kingdoms (Principality) and eventually became 12 Principalities, including the Principality of Kiev, Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia, Principality of Rostov-Suzdal (1157 changed to Vladimir-Suzdal and its location moved further north in Russia because it was often attacked by nomadic Turks), Novgorod Republic, Principality of Polotsk, Principality of Smolenks, Principality of Perezyalavl, etc.
10) The competition between rulers descended from the Rurik dynasty who ruled in the 12 principalities caused the principalities to carry out military attacks on each other. In 1169, Vladimir-Suzdal had set fire to the city of Kiev.
11) Among the 12 principalities, over time Vladimir-Suzdal became more powerful.
12) But the dream of each Principality descended from the Rurik Dynasty who competed to become the largest empire was shattered because starting in the 1230s, the Mongols invaded the area. The Mongols conquered all the Principalities, one by one easily because the Principalities were indeed not united and did not unite against the Mongol aggressors.
13) In 1238, the city of Moscow which is the Vladimir-Suzdal region was attacked and then Vladimir-Suzdal easily became the Vassal State which was obliged to pay tribute to the Mongols (Golden Horde). Under Mongol control, Vladimir-Suzdal divided his territory into several provinces under the leadership of a governor. However, the appointment of governors had to be approved by the Mongols. Even the candidate for governor had to come personally to the city of Karakorum, Mongolia to get the approval of the Mongol Khan.
14) In contrast to the fate of the Principality of Vladimir-Suzdal which did not suffer heavy losses during the Mongol invasion, the Principality of Kiev who was not willing to become the Vassal State of the Mongols and instead killed the Mongol envoys who came to the city of Kiev, finally received a very tragic fate. In 1250, the Mongols launched a massive invasion of Kiev, all buildings were razed to the ground and almost all of its 50,000 inhabitants were killed. Only two thousand left. The Kiev civilization was completely destroyed without a trace.
15) After the conquest of the Principilaity of Vladimir-Suzdal by the Mongols in 1238 and the assassination of Prince Yuri II Vsevolodovich, then the Mongols installed a puppet ruler named Prince Yaroslav II Vsevolodovich (Yuri II Vsevolodovich’s younger brother) as his successor. However, Yaroslav II Vsevolodovich did not stay in power for long, having died en route to Moscow. And then succeeded by his son named Alexander Nevsky.
16) In 1263, Alexander Nevsky, formed a new small kingdom led by his own son Daniel I. The kingdom was named the Grand Duchy of Moscow which is still the Vassal State of the Golden Horde-Mongols.
17) Daniel I began to expand his empire by capturing Kolomna and securing the inheritance of Pereslavl-Zalessky to his family. Yuriy I (also known as Georgiy; ruled 1303-1325), son of Daniel I, controlled the entire Moskva River valley and expanded westward by conquering Mozhaisk. He then allied with Uzbeg Khan (ruler of the Golden Horde – Mongols) and married Uzbeg Khan’s sister. Uzbeg Khan allowed Yuriy I to claim the title of Grand Duke of Vladimir-Suzdal, a position which allowed him to interfere in the affairs of the Novgorod Republic in the northwest.
18) The Grand Duchy of Moscow which received protection from the Golden Horde – Mongols until the 1480s grew and finally in the 1320s was able to cover and absorb its parent duchy of Vladimir-Suzdal. In 1478, the Grand Duchy of Moscow then also absorbed the neighboring Republic of Novgorod and the Kingdom of Tver in 1485.
19) At the end of the 15th century, after the end of Mongol rule in the region, the Grand Duchy of Moscow took over the former Kievan-Rus territory and proclaimed itself the sole legitimate successor of the Kievan empire.
20) In 1547, the Grand Duchy of Moscow became the Russian Empire (Tsardoom Russia) ruled by a Tsar when Ivan IV The Terrible (Reign 1547-1584) was officially crowned as “Tsar of all Russia”. The first is Ivan IV The Terrible.
I look forward to the day when Ukraine becomes westernised and liberal so the women there can be as beautiful as me. 😚🏳️🌈
I know there’s a war going on in Ukraine right now but I think that they should be focusing on more important issues right now like LGBT rights and welcoming migrants in. If they want to be more like the west then they need to change their society beyond recognition.
@ree I don’t understand sweetie? Are you against these things?
Copy and paste the same comment all over.
Theye need a big wall to keep mex out
Not the good time to do so.
@Rovan Opong Why not? Is there something weird, unnatural and abnormal about what I said?
The commedian still acts!
shame on you(KARMA BAYBBY)
Gross post. It’s ironic you speak this way of the Ukrainian president considering the one russia has.
Whoever watches over his mouth protects his own life!
Whoever opens his lips wide is going to ruin himself.
Seems odd Saudi Arabia was involved.
russia asked for help in the transfer. 215 Ukrainians for 55 russians or supports.
300 more nazis for the world to deal with

Russian federation army 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺☢️☢️❤️❤️
Vomit.
OUR ALMIGHTY HEAVENLY GODS WILL BRING PEACE BETWEEN UKRAINE 🇺🇦🇺🇦 AND RUSSIA 🇷🇺🇷🇺 SLAVA UKRAINE 🇺🇦🇺🇦
But for that NATO and the US should keep out of this.
Saudi Arabia is just crying out loud for international recognition with this stunt. How about the poor and starving people of Yemen that they’re waging war on or those they behead for stupid crimes 🤔
because God loved the world so much that he gave his only son Jesus Christ for all mankind so that any man who believes in Jesus Christ may inherit eternal life through him if we confess our sins Jesus Christ is faithful and just to forgive us and only through Jesus can we inherit eternal life13
Russian mercy is far better than america.
When Ukraine describes this as a good treat, good.
As a Saudi transgender woman of color ♀️♀️👠👠 I demand that Putin stop this pointless violence 💯💯 And that LGBTs not be beheaded in the Muslim countries. 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈

Everyone wants a friend like Putin is to Medvedchuk. He could have saved hundreds of Russian prisoners but he chose his bro. What a guy.
Wonder what families of Russian soldiers in POW camps in Ukraine are thinking about this…Guess they are thinking that its better for their kids to be in Ukraine POW camp than in the Russian armed rabble
Finally some good news from Ukrainian invasion 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Brittany….? Brittany!……anybody see a tall chick that looks like a dude?
also 55 russians were released by Ukraine, why don’t you say that?
Gay jooo actorz😜
Kremlin gave up too much!!!
Nope just 215 fro. The hundreds that surrendered in the border and the thousands in maruipol and seversdonestk
👀👀👀👀🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🤣🤣🤣🇨🇺🇨🇺🇿🇦🇮🇷🤣🤣🇮🇳🇧🇷🌍👀🇹🇷🇷🇺🤣🤣🤣
This was a diplomatic blunder on the part of Russia, except they agreed to publicly say that Russia only got 55 of its own back. Russia should have asked for 5 of its own for each Azovstal steal plant park-rat. Putin’s biggest demise is that he is slow to calculate his enemy, and the west knows that quite well, so they are always willing to push their luck. The same will not be true with the Chinese. They understand this death-by-a-thousand cuts that the west is implementing on the Rusties. The Chinese will react from the get go, so that the west and NATOwill need plenty of balls to escalate like they have slowly done in Ukraine.
Glad to see you crying!
@MrSlanderer wait…I recognize your account email. It’s you, I have met you before at the railway station in Mumbai. Actually past the railway station a bit, more closer to the Ramaja market. We defecated together on those railway tracks back in February. Remember how you came without toilet paper, and said you planned to scrub it off with a piece of rock, from the tracks, and I told you it was a bad idea, then offered you some of my toilet paper. Long time buddy, how have you been. I am really sorry that we meet again under unusual circumstances.
Likely that some Russian POWs prefer to remain in Ukraine for now.
Its a Ukrainian 🇺🇦 Evacuation 🤣😂🤣😂
how is a victory for Ukraine, this is a prisoner swap, FEDERATION got their soldiers and Ukraine got their soldiers,it’s common in war time,🤔🤔
55 Russians for 200+ Ukrainians. Yeah, Russia got screwed.
Why are muslim countries like Turkey and Saudi literally the only countries doing peace keeping negotiations and helping release prisoners??
Why cant the west take care of their mess 😂
Yet you don’t question Russia being unable to secure the release of their own boys LOL. Do you even think before posting your comments?
Was Britney on the plane
Does the west want to destroy our world? Looks like it!
Why was your original account banned?
Gives me hope that other positive things are going on behind the prying eyes of the media. Nothing was leaked until they were actually let go.
The great leader Erdoğan 🇹🇷👍
Welcome Home Heroes! 💙💛
