Prep room is required to have fans to help with fumes in my area. An most funeral homes don’t mind showing you around. We actually allow family to inspect our facilities an witness cremations. This guy ruined the trust for families across the country. I am asked all the time how do they know for sure they are getting there loved one. Most people find our job as mysterious, but most people in the industry don’t mind questions and will answer openly.

@Zach B. dood. I hope I am intelligent enough for you. A cremation only costs around $500 bucks. Not a huge amount. Not likely that there are 30 families at one funeral home who are all so destitute and homeless that each of them can’t scrape together $500 in a few days. Anything else you need explained to you?
@Jasper Martin everyone does not approve cremation. My aunt tried to create her brother. The nieces and nephews got together and scraped $10,000. It was tough and our uncle laid in the morgue longer than we wanted to, but most of my family members don’t believe in cremation.
@Jasper Martin not every place has cremations for $500. Usually it’s a lot more than that. And unless you’re providing the container, that container can be that price alone.

A lot of cases like this involve unfortunate financial issues. The one in Ohio let people go on payment plans to help them out, but didn’t have the cash for when people fell behind. He couldn’t afford what he needed to process the bodies, and they piled up as he tried to catch up. Who knows what this one was, could be anything from a scam to cutting corners to avoid bankruptcy.

Simple cremation without any viewings or other services, is only $500-$600 bucks. It is seriously not likely that 30 families all unable to pay would be the problem. @Jasper Martin Indiana DOES have laws forbidding desecration of a corpse, but they won’t apply them. Families should sue for emotional distress as a group in Civil Court. They should take everything he owns.

The taxpayers pay to house him. The justice system pockets the money he spends or family sends. Where in this does justice get served?

@SEAVEE2 this is where I’m getting hung up. He’s getting jail time for delaying funerals? Or was he doing something inappropriate with the bodies? They’re not giving a timeframe for how long the bodies were there, so given the size of the funeral home, I am not sure how many bodies should be being stored at said establishment at one period of time.

In a civilized society, the government steps in with these situation and pays for a *’paupers funeral’:* A simple pine box in a county cemetary, no marker, or, a cremation with a small fee, ($25), for return of the ashes.
Contact your County Trustee for assistance in these situations, and dont fall prey to these predatory, unscrupulous funeral homes.
Do better Indiana. This creepazoid should serve a YEAR in lockup for each set of remains he desecrated! No excuses!

This reminds me of the Noble, Georgia case. People were paying the dude to cremate bodies, he did not cremate them, instead dumped them off site and gave the families kitty litter. Why? He liked to ask “Why not?”
I never understood this . He made more work for him self by doing that, then actually cremating them. Unless his retort was broken an couldn’t pay to fix it. It is still cheaper to have another Crematory cremate for you. Most funeral homes don’t have a retort an rely on other companies to cremate for them.
This is absolutely unacceptable and unbearable for the families to deal with this… AND the universe of problems that manifest when someone passes away. To take advantage of the dead like that over and over again is unforgivable. I truly believe this is how at least in one way hauntings and paranormal phenomenon starts. You have people who are on the other side aware their former shell is not being cared for and causing friends and family unecessary trauma.

First, I think you’d feel differently if it was one of your love ones, as a matter of last respects for that person. Not to mention the money being spent to either bury or cremate.
Second, I don’t think all 31 families were struggling to pay. Maybe they were, but seems like none of the services that were supposed to be done were done outside of embalming, which only preserved the body but so long before decomp startes again.
Third. I think if he had been open with those families of the struggles he and the business was going thru and possible options, it would have been a lot better. All these families knew is that they paid into and for services that weren’t provided.

We had a career day and you could pick 3 people you wanted to talk to. So i picked the police, FBI and the funeral director. Sure enough, everyone wanted to listen to the police, the FBI and the funeral director for 45 minutes each. Nobody knew what questions to ask the funeral director so i asked him about the embalming fluid. He sighed and realized he can talk about anything so he said when it dries it’s like, he knocks on the desk, about this hard and you know, i gotta embalm the body if nobody can make up their minds after 24 hours. And I’m going to bill the next of kin for the embalming before the next step because I’m not going to freeze the body and all that. I just embalm it first if they can’t make up their minds whether to cremate or bury or whatever they want to do with the body. I gotta get paid, ya know.

I felt god smile with tears saying that’s another reason I chose you. I’m not the least bit surprised, over the last few decades funeral directors had been caught doing a lot of despicable things. A few years ago when my neighbor grandpap passed away the funeral home lost the body! I attended the wake myself, but the actual funeral service that was supposed to be the next day they lost the body, it was a total shock to the family! At the service when they was going to view the body for the last time, as they proceeded to open the casket and then tried to close it, family members came up to look at their love one and to their surprise it was a donkey’s upper torso in the casket…….. they actually dressed it like a person, it was smiling wearing dentures that belong to my neighbor’s grandpap and wearing a suit with a top had, needles to say it was totally pandemonium, I felt so awful for my poor neighbor and family, well over the years that funeral home was shut down, but open up under a new name, my neighbor filed a lawsuit but don’t know what happened to the funeral director
