He was very on point when he said that the Philippines was just reacting to the bad behavior of China in the West Philippine Sea by strengthening the EDCA. That’s what we also see here in the Philippines, because we remember what the DU30 administration did to show China how serious we are about resolving the issue, he canceled the EDCA and almost scratched the US-PH defense treaty but what China did was continue to bully our fishermen and coast guard. We feel betrayed in that sense. Now we are supporting the BBM administration in focusing on strengthening the defense treaty with the US, so at least China will think twice about continuing its bad behavior. At the same time, BBM is still open to cooperation with China.

Philippine would not invoke the Mutual Defence Treaty because we are not Warmongering and Thief like CCP. The Philippines is so fed up with China just recklessly building illegal islands and military installations and bullying our fishermen and not only Philippine fishermen but also vietnamese. I remember the incident where a big Chinese vessel rsmmed the small fishing boat of Filipino fishermen and my fellow Filipinos were out there in the open sea for dear life while the monstrous Chinese vessel left with no regards to my countrymen. You know who saved the Filipino fishermen the vietnamese fishermen and the vietnamese said Vietnam Philippines friends. So yeah China is the big bully and bullies need to be taught their lessons
I agree with the analysis, the Chinese pushed the Philippines to its limits. The UNCLOS decision was handed in 2016 and it’s now 7 years and the Chinese keep violating and disrespecting the Philippine sovereign rights.
The salami-slicing tactics of the Chinese caught up with them.

9 Joint US-PH Military Facilities (EDCA Sites) well there’s also one in Zamboanga, US Troops ( mostly USMC) are stationed there since 2002 supporting the AFP’s Counterterrorism operations in Southern Philippines their mission in Zamboanga has nothing to do with China’s Aggression but if you count Zamboanga then it’s 10

@Vale Tudo ofc it’s better to maintain the US Forces here in Philippines while we building up our own Armory just like what Japan and South Korea is doing ever since they started hosting US Military Bases as well they were able to focus on their economies and building up their own armory 🙂 which sadly PH didn’t copy the concept of Japan and South Korea while hosting US Bases cause of rampant corruption of this country and manipulation of leftist people. Philippines cannot secure all her borders. Half the US Congress would not entertain a petition for statehood under that circumstance alone.
The US already has access to Subic Bay from more than a year ago. The main contractor for the US Navy is already leasing most of the facilities. It is, of course, not “directly” the US Navy…….but hey, the access and control has been there for some time already. 😀
Philippines and Taiwan already made arrangements for evacuation measures for civilians in case China does proceed with the invasion.

Remember UNCLOS has no jurisdiction of Sovereignty. It ruled on EEZ and declared that there are no islands in the SCS by just looking at the charts.
