Many shoppers may notice an unexpected expense this holiday season, tipping in surprising places. “Tipflation” is everywhere as more people pay with cards and more businesses turn to tables with pre-set tip options.

#Tipflation #Tip #Shopping
Tipping is ridiculous. The employer should ensure proper payment, not the customers.
I used to be on the tip train until last month. Then I learned waiters/waitresses make above minimum wage through tips and they’ll make state minimum wage regardless of if they were tipped or not. Tipping is ridiculous, unnecessary, and should not be expected in any form.
Soon all work will be by commission.
I don’t really believe in tipping in the first place, when I order from uber I only tip 1-3 bucks depending on how much food I ordered. If they need tip money to live, get a different job.
Tip youtube, tiktok and twitch
i don’t tip , my state everyone get min wage, same as me
How about if its a small business, and the only person working is the business owner?
totally disagree. You shouldn’t have to tip for anything where you end up doing most of the service when purchasing your product. A coffee shop making your coffee is the product and you should have to tip for that. Now if they come to your table to take your order and get you things you may need while you wait on or consume your product on site then that is deserving of a tip. Basically if you have to go up to a counter to get it you shouldn’t have to tip. They are selling you cooked food so why should you pay more than what the price says the food is? in the case of a restaurant they get you everything you need while you remain seated and even bring your food to you, this is tip worthy. Last time I went to an all you can eat buffet I was never asked for a tip for example. Delivery has been something considered out of the norm until recent years and thus is a service because the food is brought to your home, this deserves a tip. Bellhops who help take your luggage to your hotel room provide a service beyond the typical product (renting a room for the night) they deserve a tip. You want a tip? do something beyond the product I am paying for. and no that does not mean you can provide the product in a fashion less than what is currently is and then request tips to bring it back up to where it should be.
Zero tip for non-servers! Why are companies passing on the cost of their employees onto us? How convenient!
Absolutely not tipping on take out. unless you’ve spent an extended period of time serving me, I’m not tipping.
I’m just thankful I’m not shy about hitting no tip. This has gotten way out of hand.
This is what happens when participation trophy culture breeds a generation of kids that have grown into men-women children. Expecting handouts from everyone for the most minimal of effort. Hard times are coming because weak people bring hard times.
I only tip waitresss and drivers everything else I can’t
Ah, yes. It’s a take as old as this “everyone for themselves”, cut throat country of ours. All of you complaining about this like it’s the workers faults are disgusting. Totally warped by the capitalist machine. Here a novel idea: instead of getting angry at the workers, demand that they get paid A LIVING WAGE. But you won’t. You’ll just keep attacking your fellow worker (unless you’re white collar…then you’re not a worker. Your job is meaningless).
If everybody needs a tip these days then that means employers need to pay their employees better. It’s not my job to pay them for the employer.
Pre-tipped for a pizza. Pizza came cut into one big slice almost third of pie and inch sliver slices.😂😂😂😂
Even at 15 to 20% tip is absurd!!!FOR EXAMPLE 10$ meal plus 15% tax and another 15% for tip.thats 1/3 of the total price of my food added on to my bill!Thats why restaurants and small businesses are failing.Oh not to mention inflated ridiculous prices.
I work in an IT, I have never received a tip in my entire life, why do I need to tip? Aren’t we already paying for their service? Makes no sense
all this crazy guilt tipping is for those who don’t know how to simply say no.
Tipping is the most useless thing that only Americans mostly use.
Tipping should never be necessary it’s ridiculous I didn’t get a tip as an RN. We had to pay for our own medical benefits and we had deductions it’s stupid.
Don’t tip unless she takes it all.
Like many things, US needs to get on with the global program and end its insane tipping culture.
I just don’t tip period
You’re broke. Period
@TJ Nicholson nope. I just don’t believe in old archaic systems that should of been ended by now
I got a pretzel at a auntie Anne’s and they wanted a tip for handing it to me out of the case…. and it was old …. then they give you dirty looks when you don’t tip. I’m not tipping for you doing your basic job. They should pay you more
i’m not tipping for takeout wtf lol. i’m the one picking up the food and paying for it. if i was sitting down and eating i’d understand but no
Local coffee shop has a tip jar out. Would not be so bad however the owners are the ones doing the work. If you are the owner and you have to ask for a tip than you should not be in business.
Tipping for takeout? 🤣🤣
Yea I’ve actually stopped tipping because of all these places asking for tips. If it’s not a sit down restaurant with table service NO TIP!!
pay your workers and then I might
After 5 years of marriage my wife has inflated alot
Charity’s asking for money is getting out of hand . Tips are for slaves anyway you can’t pay a slave so you give them a tip as a appreciation for serving you .
Yeah this tipping culture has to stop.
Of course this headline blames the underpaid workers instead of “companies not paying employees enough to work through holiday season without begging for extra money”
Wait why am i tipping for takeout?
I’m sorry but tipping for take out? That’s pretty unreasonable
if you want more tips then say thank you i have tipped 20% on these and i get “heres your reciept” everytime like its expected so i do its about half as much as i used to i find that more annoying than being asked to tip in the first place
Not every job deserves a tip, and asking for one is just not cool and annoying af.
Thats right, you better tip me 150% on a $10 bill.
T.i.p.s To Insure Proper Service… NO SERVICE.. NO TIP
Tips at most companies and chain stores have no tips accepted by employees if they receive a tip they have to turn it into management. If employee keeps it they can be terminated.
My exterminator for the first time ever, sent a request for a tip. I didn’t since I thought it was hoax.
It’s annoying specially when they barely do anything.
I never tip ANYWHERE. it’s not my job to pay for your salary. That is with you and your employer. America is the only country to tip. How miserable you people are.
Late Stage Capitalism. Screw Capitalism
Next we’ll have to tip a receptionist for making an appointment. Just pay your employees tired of running the gauntlet of people with their hands out.
It is completely out of hand! I ordered my mother a sandwich through Subway app and they just started putting “tip suggestions” for the preparers. What is even funnier is they start the tip percentage at 18%! 18, 20, and 25%. You can select other and enter your own amount.
im all for tipping!!!
If you provide the same service as a McDonalds cashier, I’m not tipping.
Thx companies and restaurants you are making ppl not want to spend money in your location as you basically guilt ppl into tipping for what the company should be alrdy paying them! Watch more ppl stop going out due to this crap. 😒
Everyone in the comments are idiots, and so is this pointless piece of news. You don’t have to tip. It’s not as if they’re waiters where you are “expected” to tip. The pos screen asks if you would like to tip or not. You can simply declining tipping. No one is holding a gun to your head or expecting you to tip.
Not that easy. When I go to the Subway Restaurant to pick up a sub sandwich, the screen ask for a tip and I decline. The screen just refreshes and ask for a tip again. After doing this a few times in a row I hit the cancel button and ask the cashier to punch it in again without the tip screen.
Tipping for picking up my own food is BS. Raise prices a little, pay your employees more, and then I’ll decide as the consumer if I want to patronize your business. This is getting kind of moochified and feels a bit like being in Egypt where people pander tourists for tips. Or, do nothing and just lose business that way.
We (customers) support the various businesses but they scam us with their tipflation scams. I don’t enable tipflation so I no longer shop for anything unless I absolutely have to.
Tipping is for servers. Tipping for takeout goes to owner? The expert is a phony.
California!!!
Lmao I don’t tip in general…as bad as that sounds
tipping is just an excuse to not pay their employees more. i don’t tip anyone unless something exceptional happens, or something very out of the ordinary.
Why I stop eating out. Tip has gone from crazy to insane.
Remember when 15% use to be known as gratuity for parties of 8+ ? Pepperidge Farm remembers….
Or bud tenders!
I just don’t leave the house anymore. I’m not a wealthy person, and don’t have the money to tip at every junction of transaction. The people in-charge should be paying their employees more.
Meanwhile, I do food delivery for Uber and have a hard time getting deliveries with a tip. And I’m the type of person to run to the pick up and drop off. I be running like if I’m qualifying for the Uber Olympics. 😂
If you don’t tip at Starbucks they give you attitude lol
Yes. It’s outrageous
How about employers properly pay their employees instead of making customers do it?
I didn’t leave a tip when placing my order at Nando’s Peri Peri Chicken, and when I got home I noticed they’d forgotten my sauce that was supposed to come with it. Coincidence?
Stop shopping, go for a walk and hug a tree ..so much garbage
The inflation of the word NOPE increasing too . Lmfao
Another reason to stay home
Only in America
Tips for takeout is ridiculous. Yea maybe when the service and experience elevated but most of the time no.
The only people I tip is at the haircut shop if they leave no lines in my fade.
I make sure to tell them beforehand as well lol
This segment did not answer the question of “Are too many stores now requesting tips?” or “Why are stores asking for tips where they didn’t before?” and instead just told you when not to tip. There is no critical analysis of the behaviors and decisions of the businesses instead it focuses on what the consumer should do when placed in the situation instead of why they are in the situation in the first place.
I wish they would’ve mentioned us lyft and Uber drivers.
Went into a local pizza shop the other day for the first time & before I paid the screen hit me with tip Options.. I HAD TO CHOOSE ONE. Wtf lol
Tip culture is only really dominant in Canada and the US. It barely exists in Europe and Asia. I don’t understand why people think it’s “normal” to tip or why it’s even expected.
Next the grocery stores will ask for tips for the food you bought and cooked at home 😅
I work for a coffee shop and it’s corporate owned. I try to make it clear to customers that they don’t have to tip us bc they pay us really well to keep things in order. If u want to ok but it’s not necessary. Now if it was a small family owned coffee shop and the pay isn’t the greatest then I’d say tip. ✨
Wouldn’t be surprised if the vending machine started asking for a tip.
Fook tipping for takeout. If I gotta pick it up, I’ll tip myself when I deliver it home.
I tip my barber and food server (when I am eating at a table and being served), that’s it. I get a few dollars in lottery tickets every week (I know I am never going to win, but its just a few dollars and it keeps me going), well the employee at the convenience store I get lottery tickets from (that’s all I get at that store), start putting out a tip cup and every time I go in now they bring up about other ‘regulars’ that tip when getting lottery tickets. I have decided to drive further to another store to get my tickets, (I just can’t stand the pressure to have to tip for nonsense reasons).
If I’m picking up the food I’m not tipping you sheet—I paid you to make it. That’s it that’s all.
Yes no you should be tipping at least 20% for take out because many of those people are doing it with their own gas. Same with lyft drivers you should be tipping them 20 the 25%.
“How about someone at a coffee shop” 😂 😂😂😂😂
Wow they really never fail to amaze me fr 100
A smile & no attitude ❤❤❤ is definitely enough ❤❤❤❤
As a front of house hospitality worker I’ve learned to Not Give a crap whether I get a tip or not, I’m being paid a decent wage to do my job, as a matter of fact, alot of the time I will split any tips i do get with the back of house staff, they are the ones doing most the work, Realtalk, I also do work in back of house and rarely if ever receive any tips, there again, I am being paid a decent wage to do my job, Greed is an ugly trait to possess
Urgh. If you don’t want to tip, don’t tip . People make things way more complicated than it should be.
BS. enough is enough.
1:09 That’s Robbie Rotten from Lazy Town !!
Companies should pay their employees a decent wage, and the mega million CEOs on the top can eat part of that loss from their own checks without increasing the price of products too much. It’s that simple. It shouldn’t be on the burden of the consumer to pay employees. It is right now, so I still tip, but is it right? No.
Servers are a different thing then all the rest. Sorry mister manners, nobody else gets tipped. Even servers should get paid a good wage and get rid of tipping altogether.
Tip deez nuts 😂 I drove there(gas), helped find my own items(most times not being greeted), and you want a tip for doing your job you’re being paid to do. Yeah no!
My concern is we might start seeing more jobs like retail start falling into the tipped minimum wage like waitresses in restaurants. If you don’t want to see these these already underpaid employees make even less don’t tip in retail.
I can only tip 2.00… something that you can do this is a good idea
I got a tip for 10.00 for looking good at my job.. I was thinking cool.. thats nice I been working for one year scanning tickets.. at the door 🚪a dollar a day ..
jobs yes. tips no.
Tips in the future 😳
I am NOT tipping for takeout. If I am driving up there to get my food myself I’m doing the restaurant a favor.
yup – out of hand
No tipping if YOU HAVE TO WALK OR DRIVE UP FOR FOOD. 10% across the board. We’re in consumer debt up to our necks, tip on that card and you are paying interest on that!
Here in Vienna, Austria , we have the same problem.😂
