Wildfires in Brazil are expanding in the world’s largest tropical wetland that’s been hit hard by drought.
Satellite data shows a 980% increase in fires in the Pantanal this year.
That’s the highest number since 2020 – that was the worst year on record.

Not to mention all of the people employed in tourism who also consume petroleum products. Then it is your desire for happiness that increases your CO2 footprint, when you could be happy doing things closer to home and reduce the CO2 impact. We must eat but we do not need to fly around the world just to take some selfies.

This area is the Cerrado, it’s naturally like a Savannah. It’s not deforestated Amazon forest, these are different biomes.

SE Amazon rainforest is rapidly turning to desert and grassland. We will see what happens to the rest of the forest soon…
Losing coastal rainforests have cut the water cycle. There has been around 7 raincycles from Atlantic ocean to the Andies that rainforest made same water to rain again and again. Now we have lost 2 of those cycles and they are not carrying water to the rest 5 of them. Brazil and other Amazon area countries have been seeing more droughts in recent years and that is clear sign that the area is drying up rapidly.
To avoid rapid worsening and losing entire rainforest we have to:
1) Stop any further damages to the rainforest.
2) Reforest many areas (ie. all areas that were rainforest by 2000).
3) Stop burning fossil fuels and make warming ever worse.
@@martiansoon9092 also reduce cattle and soybean exportation in Brazil, which is the main incentive to deforestation, and that means reducing the demand for those in europe and asia…

Cows and other farming (often for cow food) is one of the causes for these events. Slashing and burning rainforest has been a method to have more farmlands. These permanently takes away the rainforests and causes whole area to dry up.
So these cowboys are part of the problem, not a part of the solution.
