Few people are expecting anyone to beat incumbent Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled for more than 25 years and is labelled by many as Europe’s last dictator.
But as Al Jazeera’s Nadim Baba reports, one woman is mounting a major challenge.

What fascinates me about the reporting in the West, outside of treating the pandemic the way it does, is that the press yammers endlessly about Russian meddling in US elections and elsewhere in the West, but seems to portray the concept of Russians meddling in the Belarus elections as “not believable and insane to think possible.” There is more, but today I am busy.
Because Russia gains absolutely nothing from meddling in Belarusian election. For an accusation to make sense there has to be a motive.
Because the dictator who has been in power since 1994 is Russia’s man.
Only recently has there been popular pushback against Russia and Lukashenko has jumped on this bandwagon ; hence his attempt to smear his rival as being promoted by Russia. (There’s more but I’m having my breakfast).
