A former police officer turned notorious gang leader is asking his supporters to join mass protests in Haiti. “I am alive, thanks to God,” Martine Moise, the wife of assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moise, said in Creole in an audio message. “I am crying, it is true, but we cannot let the country lose its way,” she said. “We cannot let his blood … have been spilled in vain.” Haiti’s minister of culture and communications, Pradel Henriquez, confirmed to the AFP news agency that the audio was authentic. Authorities in Haiti say they have arrested two people in connection with the assassination of President Jovenel Moise. Four other suspects were killed in a gunfight with security forces. Moise was killed at his home early on Wednesday. His wife was injured and has been taken to the US for treatment.
