Stifel Managing Director Stephen Gengaro spoke with Yahoo Finance anchor Josh Lipton about the outlook for the electric vehicle market. Stifel analysts initiated coverage of electric vehicle maker Rivian (RIVN) with a “Buy” rating and a $23 price target this week. How recycled plastic is recirculated to minimize landfill waste for future generations

As world leaders debate fossil fuel reliance at the COP28 climate summit, waste management innovators invest in sustainable practices and the reuse of plastics. Republic Services (RSG) CEO Jon Vander Ark tells Yahoo Finance’s Rachelle Akuffo that of 5 million items collected daily, plastics and cardboard dominate all which rely on fossil fuel usage for creation. While recyclables get reprocessed into products like carpets, Vander Ark notes these ultimately reach landfills too. However, Republic’s new Las Vegas Polymer Center aims to achieve “true circularity” — bottles remade endlessly into new bottles. Vander Ark says the facility will help overturn current shortages in sustainable recycling infrastructure. Alongside corporate and regulatory pressures […]

FDA approves gene-editing therapy for sickle cell disease

The FDA approved gene-editing therapy Casgevy to treat sickle cell disease. Developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX) and CRISPR Therapeutics (CRSP), the one-time treatment harnesses gene editing advancements. Vertex CEO Dr. Reshma Kewalramani says the approach involves extracting a patient’s stem cells, correcting the defect in those cells using CRISPR gene editing tools, then re-infusing the edited cells into the patient – relieving painful symptoms. Patients who undergo this $2.2 million procedure may eliminate painful sickle cell crises called VOC’s. Kewalramani contrasts the cost against the $4-6 million lifetime price tag for conventional sickle cell management. #youtube #genetics #yahoofinance About Yahoo Finance: Yahoo Finance provides free stock ticker data, up-to-date news, […]

The US added 199,000 jobs in the month of November according to the latest jobs data print, while consumer sentiment rose by 13.2% month-over-month alongside falling inflation expectations. Interactive Brokers Chief Strategist Steve Sosnick believes this combo of data should assuage recession risks while markets price in the Fed’s interest rate narrative for 2024.”Does [Fed Chair Jerome Powell] have his usual Goldilocks stance at the FOMC meeting where we get a little bit of this, little bit of that, and the market can read in what it wants?” Sosnick ponders to Yahoo Finance. “Or does he go a little more Grinch… at the meeting and sort of say, ‘Guys, you […]
