Exchanges of fire on the Israel-Lebanon border are escalating. Hezbollah has launched a barrage of 100 rockets into Israeli territory. At least 100 were fired from southern Lebanon towards northern Galilee and the occupied Golan Heights. That escalation comes after Israel launched an attack deep inside Lebanon overnight that killed at least 4 civilians and a number injured in Baalbek – 100 km from the border with Israel. Israel has hit Hezbollah targets in eastern Lebanon for the first time since the start of the War on Gaza. At least two simultaneous Israeli strikes hit around the city of Baalbek. The Israeli army says the strikes were in retaliation for Hezbollah’s downing of one of its armed drones in southern Lebanon. At least two people have been killed, including a child after an Israeli air strike hit southern Lebanon. The attack targeted the border village of Majdal Zoun. Three others are injured. A woman identified as Khadija Salman was killed as Israeli shelling targeted the town of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese media. Her daughter was also seriously injured in the attack. Lebanese media platforms shared scenes of smoke rising as a result of the shelling. There have been several Israeli air raids, and several Hezbollah attacks today. Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for at least eight attacks on Israeli targets. The Israeli army is announcing nine of its soldiers have been wounded, including one that was severely injured. Here in Lebanon there were three Israeli air raids on the Qlaileh valley, which connects Naqoura to Tyre. Also, there were a couple of air raids at greater depth, about 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the border. Meanwhile, there were several attacks and artillery bombardment, which we witness on an hourly basis, towards the open areas in Naqoura and towards the eastern and central sectors of southern Lebanon. Over the recent hours, several Israeli air raids targeted the hills overlooking Naqoura. Simultaneously, Hezbollah carried out attacks in the morning with no reported casualties. Israel aims to push Hezbollah beyond the Litani River, approximately 20km from the border, focusing the conflict in that area. Seizing this opportunity, Israel is striking Hezbollah’s infrastructure developed since the 2006 war. Israel is stepping up its military operations – air attacks striking deeper into Lebanon. Overnight, it targeted a site in the Iqlim al-Tuffah region approximately 20km (12 miles) from the border, an area where Hezbollah has military assets. That could have been in response to Hezbollah firing surface-to-air missiles that exploded close to Israeli helicopters flying in Israeli air space close to the border.
