Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes in the Philippines as “one of the world’s strongest storms” of the year made landfall in mid-eastern parts of the island nation. UN officials have condemned the killings of at least 10 people in Myanmar’s northwestern Sagaing district allegedly perpetrated by government security forces. Eyewitness accounts from the area say more than 100 government troops entered Don Thaw village on December 7, searching for armed fighters from the so-called Peoples Defence Force.
