Sydney floods: Thousands flee worst flooding in 60 years

Australian authorities were preparing to evacuate thousands of more people on Monday from flood-affected suburbs on the western fringes of Sydney, the country’s biggest city, with another day of heavy rain triggering the worst floods in 60 years. Protesters across Europe clash with police over COVID curbs

Countries across Europe are returning to lockdown, as the continent grapples with a surge in coronavirus infections. In Germany, police used water cannon and pepper spray to disperse anti-lockdown protesters in the city of Kassel. In neighbouring Switzerland, more than 5,000 protesters gathered in the town of Liestal to demand an end to COVID restrictions which have shut restaurants and other public places for months. Elsewhere in Europe, there were more anti-lockdown protests on Saturday from Bulgaria to Romania, Serbia to Croatia.
