Military leaders dissolve government in Guinea

The military leadership in Guinea has dissolved the government – but isn’t explaining why. Government ministers have been ordered to surrender their passports and have had their bank accounts frozen. The armed forces deposed president Alpha Conde in a coup in 2021. Military leader Mamady Doumbouya has promised the return of civilian rule by the end of this year. Pakistan temporarily suspends mobile services nationwide for general elections

Pakistan has temporarily suspended mobile services across the country as polls open for the general elections. The Interior Ministry says this is to maintain law and order amid security concerns. Islamic State claimed responsibility for a bombing in the south western province of Balochistan, which killed at least 28 people on Wednesday. Palestinian refugees paying to flee: Reports of payments for border crossings

People trying to get out of Gaza via the Rafah border crossing with Egypt are being forced to pay thousands of dollars to a network of so-called brokers for exit permits. Mozambique ex-president’s son, 10 others jailed over corruption

A court in Mozambique has sentenced the son of a former president, two ex-spy bosses, and eight others to years in prison for their part in a corruption scandal in which the government sought to conceal huge debts, triggering financial havoc. The 11 were found guilty and sentenced on Wednesday on charges related to a $2bn “hidden debt” scandal which saw hundreds of millions of dollars in government-backed loans disappear and crashed the southern African nation’s economy.
