Iranian ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad registers for June presidential elections

Iran’s former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is making a comeback bid in the upcoming presidential election. He’s the first prominent candidate to register for the elections set to take place on June 28th. Ahmadinejad previously served two four-year terms from 2005 to 2013. These elections are being held following the helicopter crash that killed President Ebrahim Raisi and eight other people. Iran mourns after Raisi dies in helicopter crash; VP named acting president

Iran’s Supreme Leader has declared five days of national mourning following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. The wreckage was found early on Monday. The foreign minister, one of the nine on board, has also been confirmed dead. Al Jazeera’s Michael Appel reports on how events unfolded before and after the crash. Iranian president visits Pakistan: Aims to mend ties after cross-border strikes

Iran nuclear programme: UN watchdog chief holds talks

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog has returned from talks in Tehran with an agreement that nuclear inspectors will be allowed to service monitoring equipment in Iran’s nuclear sites. Iran says the International Atomic Energy Agency’s officials will be allowed to replace the memory cards in recording cameras that will be kept in Iran It is the first such meeting since President Ebrahim Raisi took office and talks in Vienna are expected to continue later this month.
