Iran nuclear programme: UN watchdog chief holds talks

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog has returned from talks in Tehran with an agreement that nuclear inspectors will be allowed to service monitoring equipment in Iran’s nuclear sites. Iran says the International Atomic Energy Agency’s officials will be allowed to replace the memory cards in recording cameras that will be kept in Iran It is the first such meeting since President Ebrahim Raisi took office and talks in Vienna are expected to continue later this month. Kuwait swears in new emir after Sheikh Sabah’s death

Kuwait has sworn in its new emir, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, to receive the body of his half-brother, the late ruler Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah who died in the United States at the age of 91. The body of Sheikh Sabah, an acclaimed diplomat and mediator who ruled for 14 years, is expected to arrive in Kuwait City later on Wednesday. He died on Tuesday in Minnesota where he had been undergoing treatment in hospital since July. Iran chides US as world refuses to reimpose sanctions

Iran is threatening the United States with a “crushing response” to its efforts to reimpose sanctions. The US has called for the triggering of the so-called snapback of the sanctions that were lifted in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. But every other permanent member of the United Nations Security Council has rejected the US demand.
