Iran’s supreme leader has condemned Israel and the West over “crimes” in Gaza during Ramadan in an Eid al-Fitr speech that also promised retaliation for the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria. “When they attack our consulate, it is as if they have attacked our soil,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech on Wednesday to thousands in Tehran, with the crowd repeatedly breaking into chants of support. Attack on Iranian consulate in Damascus ‘another blow for Iran’: AJ correspondent

An Israeli air strike has hit the consular section of the Iranian embassy in the capital Damascus. At least five people have been killed. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi says Israel “will certainly pay” for the killing in Syria of a senior general with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. “Without a doubt, this action is another sign of frustration, helplessness and incapacity of the usurping Zionist regime [Israel] in the region,” Raisi said in a statement.
