Thousands protest in Israel despite judicial overhaul pause

For the thirteenth week in a row, tens of thousands of protesters have turned out in Israel against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned judicial overhaul. Rallies were held in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and other cities. That is despite Netanyahu delaying the changes by a few weeks, to reach a compromise with opposition parties. Israel judicial overhaul plan: Netanyahu hints at a compromise

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says a compromise on his controversial judicial reforms could be possible. The proposals have sparked the biggest protests in the nation’s history. Critics fear the changes will harm the independence of the judiciary. US President Joe Biden is urging Netanyahu to abandon the plan. Netanyahu says Israel will not bow to international pressure but he has denied any rift between Israel and Washington.
