At least 500 people have been killed in the city of Kharkiv since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the regional emergency service has said. Ukraine’s second-largest city, located in the country’s northeast, has been subjected to relentless bombardment by Russian forces for weeks. Kharkiv has suffered constant shelling by Russian forces. Although they have not been able to take control of the city, the bombing has caused catastrophic damage. Talks between Ukraine and Russia are due to begin on Monday morning near the Belarusian border, reports TASS news agency. Huge explosions lit up the sky early on Sunday south of the capital, Kyiv, where people hunkered down in homes, underground garages and subway stations and the government maintained a 39-hour curfew in anticipation of a full-scale assault by Russian forces.
