Iraqi youth call for boycott of Sunday’s parliamentary vote

On Sunday, Iraqis will vote for a new parliament, in a snap election under a new electoral law. Iraq has seen large anti-government protests in recent years – against unemployment and lack of services. Iran nuclear programme: UN watchdog chief holds talks

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog has returned from talks in Tehran with an agreement that nuclear inspectors will be allowed to service monitoring equipment in Iran’s nuclear sites. Iran says the International Atomic Energy Agency’s officials will be allowed to replace the memory cards in recording cameras that will be kept in Iran It is the first such meeting since President Ebrahim Raisi took office and talks in Vienna are expected to continue later this month. Israel prison break celebrated by Palestinians

At least six Palestinian prisoners have escaped from a high-security prison in Israel. They appeared to have used a tunnel under the Gilboa prison – just north of the occupied West Bank. Such breakouts are extremely rare. One of those who managed to escape is Zakaria Zubeidi, a high-profile figure in Fatah’s armed wing. Six Palestinians escape from high-security prison in Israel

Israeli forces have been searching for six Palestinian prisoners who managed to escape from a high-security facility in northern Israel early on Monday. The prisoners escaped from the Gilboa prison, which is supposed to be one of Israel’s most secured facilities. Such breakouts are extremely rare. Local media reports said the men, who likely shared the same prison cell, escaped through a tunnel and appeared to have received some outside help. The tunnel appeared to have been dug from below a toilet in the cell, from which the prisoners crawled their way out of the facility. Algeria wildfire death toll rises as 25 soldiers killed

Algeria’s president has announced that 25 soldiers have been killed saving residents from the wildfires ravaging forests and villages east of the capital, adding to the fire death toll this week in the North African nation. The soldiers died during a rescue operation in the mountainous Kabylie region. The interior minister has suggested arsonists lit the fires, but so far has not provided further details.
