Egypt’s former assistant foreign minister, Hussein Haridy, says questions over the status of Gaza’s Philadelphi Corridor and Rafah crossing are likely to feature prominently in US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s talks with Egyptian officials today. People trying to get out of Gaza via the Rafah border crossing with Egypt are being forced to pay thousands of dollars to a network of so-called brokers for exit permits. That’s according to reports published by Le Monde in France. Some Palestinians describe the practice as state-sponsored corruption and are pointing to Israel and Egypt, which control the crossing.
