US forces sink ‘Houthi’ boats in Red Sea after attack on Maersk vessel

The United States military says it has sunk three boats waging an attack on a container ship in the Red Sea as it continues its patrol mission to counter threats from Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Helicopters from two US warships – the USS Eisenhower and USS Gravely – shot at the “Iranian-backed Houthi small boats” in self-defence on Sunday morning while responding to an SOS call from the Singapore-flagged vessel Maersk Hangzhou, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said. Dozens of vessels stranded in Djibouti as Houthis ‘set new rules’ in Red Sea

The US Central Command reports that over 10 hours, 12 one-way attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land attack cruise missiles launched by the Houthis have been successfully neutralized by the US military. This has led to significant disruptions in business, with a nearly 35 percent reduction in the number of ships transiting the Bab al-Mandab strait. Consequently, numerous vessels have been stranded for six days, uncertain about when they will receive clearance to depart.
