US military creates space unit in South Korea amid North Korea tensions

The US has opened a Space Force sub-command at its base in South Korea. It is expected to optimize the use of its satellites and other space-based assets as North Korea has been on a record-smashing run of missile testing this year. The unit belongs to the US Space Force, which was launched in December 2019 under then-President Donald Trump as the first new US military service in more than 70 years. The US Space Forces Korea is a subordinate of a bigger US Space Force unit established within the Indo-Pacific command in Hawaii last month. Al Jazeera’s Eunice Kim reports from Seoul.
