Spanish authorities say nearly 32,000 migrants reached the Canary Islands by sea from West Africa this year – higher than the previous record posted in 2006. In an interview with Al Jazeera, a Spanish minister has called on the international community to sanction Israel, which she accused of a “planned genocide” of Palestinians in Gaza. An Israeli air attack in south Lebanon has killed four civilians – three children and their grandmother – raising the likelihood of a dangerous new escalation in the conflict on the Lebanon-Israel border.
