As a Malaysian, high speed rail is good, but not at the current price and location.
Price is too high, location is not at the place whereby people can afford it.
Htin@ Malaysia is paying million of $$$ monthly interests on those loans. The projects construction contract have to be awarded to China state own company, all workers are Chinese and use China produced material as part of the condition for those loans. Bad deal overall no matter how you look at them.

Why is China not working as closely with Singapore as she is working with Malaysia or have I misperceived?
Because Singapore is pro america and mainland Chinese literally just hate Singaporean even though most are Chinese.
Singapore is well established nation with already good in infrastructure. While Malaysia has a good advantage as it growing towards fully developed and high income nation which requires more infrastructure and connectivity.
