Some say the future of renewable energy lies in not how we create energy, but in how we store it. As more and more administrations around the world set energy storage targets ‘The Edge’ meets Primus Power, a Californian company hoping its flow battery energy storage systems become the norm. ‘The Edge’ speaks with Ruslan Rakymbay, general director of Primus Power to find out more.
Primus Power featured in the episode, ‘The Edge: Energy Expo’ in which CNBC travelled to Astana, Kazakhstan to explore the ‘Future Energy’ Astana Expo 2017.

Shame on you Mr. Director that you pass this very known and very old method as your idea . The Redox battery or flow battery is dating its evidence in 1884 in the airship .” La France” .
Why they dont just transforn electricity into hidrogen? then use hidrogen engines to run the energy….
Huge loss in efficiency using electrolysis. And with other conversion loses in each step of the process, by the time you use the generated hydrogen, you are only realizing 30% of the power you originally collected.
And it’s cost is currently far more than that of an equal energy amount of gasoline.
Hard to convince people to switch when it costs a significant amount more than what they already use.
just because its so little used
The sun sets and the winds still, but the tide NEVER stops…. no real need for storage there.
Not sure why wave and tidal power generation is not consistently an integral part of the renewable power grid discussion.
Jerry VanNuys your right I cannot believe they still keep using wind. I think it’s due to to governments being in the pocket of energy companies. It would not do to loose reliance on carbon or nuclear for them.
i leak =whole ocean electrified = people ded
I think energy storage is very important, mostly because of electric cars.
Jerry VanNuys tidal power dams have a potential to harm the wildlife. It’s a good idea but needs extra solutions to protect species that might be affected.
A no loss battery can be created by the use of a gravity generator that is powered by solar and wind.
