The federal government is expected to announce a tier one water shortage in Lake Mead, the country’s largest reservoir, forcing Arizona and Nevada to cut back on water usage as early as next year. NBC News’ Josh Lederman breaks down how residents and farmers are reacting to the announcement and whether more reservoirs across the country could also see major cutbacks.

#Drought #LakeMead #US
Declaring the emergency doesn’t reduce the ongoing drought.
I know haha, State of emergency! Or Print more money when there is inflation! That doesn’t do anything. Tell us what exactly has to be done to fix it
@Brian J Using new technology, freshwater can be obtained from seawater far inland at cost lower than Reverse Osmosis.
😂😂😂
And my neighbors left their sprinklers running thru the night last night.
We need to grow more Almonds
Oh no what are we
Going to do 😱😱😱
Another significant prophecy.. each year getting bigger and stronger. The prophecies fulfilled one by one. The prophecies written in the last Holy Book. The prophecies that never wrong so far..
welp. sux to be all of us….
This will all seem very quaint and nostalgic once the big one hits and huge chunks of the west coast disappear taking 10+ million people with them. On the up side, such a thing could increase the rain totals for AZ and NV. I wouldn’t bet on it, though.
California: The only state where they tell you to buy an electric car and then shut off the power.
Sounds about right.
And not recycling their water
😆
You can blame the state agricultural lobby…..who are made up of …. Republicans.
We should stop growing stupid s*** like almonds, it’s not worth the extra water.
A SHORTAGE of HUMAN BEINGS is in critical need.
That’s not the only problem, many states aren’t recycling their water
While I do hate the population explosion, especially with lower class uneducated people, a decrease in birthing rates would destroy the economy.
Every single almond takes over a gallon of water to grow. Eat them on the golf course for full effect!
I kind of feel like walking around a golf course munching on a bag of almonds now. Thanks.
@jeremy sans3lm get them while you can!
One hamburger takes 1600 gallons. Enjoy your burgers
Excellent idea!
97 percent of the earth is covered in salt water. DESALINATION…. I’ve seen the world run gas lines and other pipe lines across almost entire countries….🤷🏾♂️
Ha ha, Hilton just opened a HUGE new hotel/casino development in Las Vegas. I don’t know how long they think they can keep ignoring this. I have driven by Lake Mead several times in the last 12 years (driving to Arizona) and the old water mark just gets higher and higher. Here in Reno, they keep saying we have water for like 20 years, but never explain what that means, even as they build over every square inch of land, watching the reservoirs drop, and how the snow pack is less and less. Yes there are scattered years of heavy snow and then everyone is going “oh, drought over” and anyone with a brain says “not so fast”.
im a native to Los Angeles but was lucky to travel to Carson ., Reno., Vegas as a kid yes its changing but folks back east don’t understand., I went to Virginia during a hurricane and Mississippi is just to green and beautiful. we live in a desert.
TEAR ONE! HERE TEAR YOUR FACE OFF CUZ I’M THIRSTY!
Best be jumping on that cloud seeding. More so in the Winter.
Everyone should use as much water as they can, as fast as they can, to get what they can, while they can. While doing this, everyone should blame whoever they’re not for looming shortages. Farmers, blame city dwellers! City dwellers, blame farmers! Everyone unite and blame Nestle and the snail darter! Squander and blame! Look at the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert, they’ve got the right idea, they’re building a *bunch of new SURF PARKS* right now! ! ! That’s the spirit!
Cut water, don’t cut budget, don’t cut life in the desert.
FARMERS STOP FEEDING THE RICH!!!!!! LET THEM STARVE TO DEATH. THE WORLD WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER PLACE WITHOUT THEM
New law. Trump can’t water his golf courses. Hehehe
we have oil pipes going cross country how about water pipes?
pipe from great lake to lake mead, now. Tell congress to print another trillion.
Hello, you got Oceans near by, try desalination plants and pipe those expensive water in. Or move to a different State that already has water aplenty.
We are at Tier 3. It’s just that no one wants to admit it. You can’t refill the reservoirs if you continue to release more water than comes in. It’s a fool’s prophecy to think you can conserve your way out of this on the backs of residential customers when the farmers who account for 70% of the water usage continue to flood irrigate thirsty crops like alfalfa, cotton and almonds.
True.
Our farming is not very water efficient.
The typical data center uses about 3-5 million gallons of water per day — the same amount of water as a city of 30,000-50,000 people. That makes the farmers use look like filling a kiddie pool.
@Andy M I hope that is not once through cooling and at least some of it gets recycled back through the cooling towers. I wonder what the evaporation rate is and how much make-up water they need a day?
Phoenix, a city in the middle of the desert, is the fastest growing major city in the country. It’s full of golf courses and farmers growing water intensive crops in the desert while vast expansive suburbs are being built ever sprawling out into the desert. Maybe that has something to do with it….
Exactly
we r the dumbest specie of animal on the planet
Same here in Las Vegas. We are screwed.
KEEP OUT OF THE WATER SATANAS! I ORDER YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
I think the water is on the way soon pray and I’m sure it’s gunna show up soon 🌟🌟💫💫 I know a good plummer
The Earth has EXACTLY the same amount of water now that it did at creation. SO, where’s it all going? Oceans? Glaciers? NATURAL lakes? SOLD OFF? Gotta be one of those my friends! Don’t drink the cool-aid!
Step 1: get rid of the golf courses
https://youtu.be/qTXVAcdpgXE
Now they want to talk about this when the Lake had been drying up for YEARS…My advice MOVE
Umm no we are full on the east coast.
head east. plenty of water in the east
@Faith Kings People are moving NE Ohio & it ain’t sh*t here
mark my word wallstreet is gonna privatize all water like australia
Yes, Nestle is buying up water rights throughout the USA.
Welcome to the APOCALYPSE folks.BUCKLE UP
Imagine being John the prophet seeing people getting temperature taken on forehead and now showing phone in hand to enter into any building.
And they have the fix for climate control already. Wait and see whats in that shot so many got.
Revelation 9:4 commended not to hurt the grass trees or anything green thing.but only those men that have not the seal of God in there foreheads.
I’m so lucky for my family farm artesian well that we dug over 45 years ago and it’s being running non stop ,summer and -50%c winters . Never freezes never stops .
They don’t freeze…the water just stops one day
Ya it’s our second well on our 200 year homestead so you could be right but I’ll be long gone before this one dries up .fresh water is in much abundance where I live . Canada’s liquid gold .lol
Never never trust the government.
We are there commodity.
Is this really news? It happens every 5 years or so since I’ve been alive.
Arizona plans to cut water usage by building more homes and businesses in Phoenix.
I know right? Cra cra.
How many “Bottled Water Companies” are using that Reservoir for their sales to different states etc..
Read “Gardening With Less Water” by David Bainbridge. Suppose to help you garden with 90% less water. I’m going to try. I only have a small yard; but , could it help farmers? Think so.
Purchasing a dehumidifier is a good idea right now, you can place the device outside, pull moisture from the air, and then utilize that water – like in your toilet bowl. If you can purchase a really good water filtration device, you could also put the collected water through the filtering system and utilize it to drink, cook, clean, bathe, and wash with. Also, the collected water can be used in your garden or around your yard. (Use Solar energy – it’s free and now’s the time to begin enjoying it)
Also, it’s a great time to experiment with a composting toilet, which would eliminate the use of water to flush the waste away.
every time u flush the toilet thats 3 gallons of water
Move. To. Waterful. States.
You got at least 40 to choose from.
So how long has that metal walk way been there?
Check out how many farms are in California. And remember their money comes from nuts that are hard to grow ANYWHERE because of the environment that they need.
They have worked out a way of removing the salt from ocean water but the process takes so much industrial power and energy and so forth to make drinkable water out of ocean water which mother nature does naturally when she wears down on the ocean and evaporates and to the sky it separates the salt from the water it comes back down on the ground in the form of rain but for humans to do this artificially their debate upon on how much energy it takes to do that but I think they better get their blood and gear and do it it’s hard to believe that last year at this time the state I live in we are in a flood this year we are in 100% throughout we don’t get our water from the Colorado but I guarantee you it still doesn’t make any difference dry is.
Invade more country we need water
Haaaaa mad max
Droughts and pollution. Will lead to water shortages. I think that modern human beings are setting themselves up for their own demise. Better read a history book on all the civilizations who have disappeared because of lack of water
I been pouring salt in all the fresh water convert to drinking salt water
So then what’s going to happen when there is a food shortage because the farmers don’t have enough water to grow the region’s food. This is just not good.
Human made Climate change is real. And it is just getting started.
Let’s add a fourth branch to our government called: THE PEOPLES BRANCH, and let’s have this fourth branch allow people a full vote on all pending legislation. That way the politicians will have to pay attention to what we really want.
And the fountains still spray in VEGAS
That’s deep enough to tell more droughts
You can’t blame the drought on China. The blame rests firmly on the stupidity of the USA.
Unless you put valves on the water meter on every house and apartment and shut off the water each day once they use 50 gallons, no one is going to limit their water usage
Dear people of Arizona, Nevada, and California: KEEP YOUR MEASLY ASSESV OUT WEST. THE EAST DOESN’T WANT NOR NEED YOU
The only solution is to burn more oil to condense water from the air!
We lie to ourselves everyday, the meat we eat takes the most water. How many almond drive throughs do you know of. …….. Zero! We will eat ourselves out of water. Humans…. The great destroyer.
Countries do/did face droughts as shown through out the history and they are inevitable. How we response to those disasters is the key to solutions. We have abundant natural resources thinking that they will never end. We need to end this mentality of consumerism and unnecessary usage of resources to avoid or mitigate these type of catastrophes. Our govt are partially to blame which they dont do proper planning and fail to educate and prepare people. Mostly, we are not educated or discipline enough to understand the importance of water. starting today we should all check our water usage meter to determine how much extra water we are consuming and cut back to at least 25%. Then, we should ask govts about our water conversation plans to determine their perdormance. We only take action when things are already destroyed.
The US and many other nations have been using cloud seeding technology for decades. Desalination technology has been in place for hundreds of years. Out-of-control wildfires in California or any water shortage in the US makes ZERO sense.
Reason why am leaving AZ .
Thank God the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas and all those lush green golf courses in AZ are not affected…
Typical Democrat failure. Blame the people when it’s you making the laws
Send a pipe to the north pole Glaciers and haven’t filled up the river
Newsom pushing biggest dam removal project in the history of human history.
Four hydroelectric dams on Klamath River (Iron Gate, Copco1, Copco 2 and Boyle) will be destroyed. Three reservoirs are holding 200,000,000m3 of fresh water will be gone forever.
Destruction of California’s Klamath River Water Storage and Clean Green Renewable Hydropower by urging dam removal during major drought, eliminating fire suppression in a catastrophic wildfire area, bypassing American citizens right to due process by violating the Klamath Basin Compact, ignoring NEPA and trying to rush through Klamath Dam Destruction without considering the health and welfare of MAN and the environment, ignoring the County of Siskiyou and the will of its People.
On these grounds alone Gavin Newsom should be recalled. This is a completely manmade crisis and if allowed to continue this will be the largest environmental disaster in known history. The destruction of a specialized warm water ecosystem that is thriving for a fairytale of headlines is not worth the 20 million plus cubic yards of sediment destroying everything in its wake. Putting American citizens at risk of breathing in toxic dust and living with a cracked and dead landscape in perpetuity and further burdening the California taxpayer with all the liabilities from mitigating the largest environmental disaster of all time. Unacceptable. Today’s farmer is yesterday’s Native American. We need food and water to keep California alive. NOW is the time!
ah, now you realize how selfish humans really are. I mean I could care about the future but I don’t, which millions think like me but just don’t come out and say it. I have no children by choice and really only need to worry about myself. I just gotta make it another 40 years or so and the fact that there will be no water for your children and the younger generation won’t bother me at all because I’ll be fertilizing your soil….good luck because USA isn’t doing to well anyways in general, I am unsure what kind of country I’m living in with horrible leadership. When there is no water if i’m still alive i’ll move because I can financially, and the rest of you live off unemployment for the most part so…..
MUST READ THIS!!!!!!!!
The Colorado River is flowing into The Sea of Cortez for the first time in 20 years!
It’s a conspiracy to drain all the reservoirs to run the farmers off of their land. If you don’t believe me check with the locals in Northern California all the rivers up there ran at flood stage while they drained all the lakes this last spring.
It’s a takeover of our food resources
Yellow stone fixing to pop
Where have you intrepid reporters been??? As of the publishing date of this video, the lake is down going on 162 feet, not 130. Come on, guys. Get your facts straight.
Stop building golf courses and housing in deserts.
Okay tell people with pools to cement it
Humans have been writing checks against the environment they can’t cash. Judgement day has arrived for the greedy, pig headed, ignorant, polluting human race!
Pipe line from melting glaciers all the way to empty lakes . Problem solved. Oh wait it isn’t oil never mind no one cares.
Could easily pump salt water to the desert and use the heat to make fresh water
Live AID for USA
So what…
I swear if I see one more green golf course or nice front lawn before people get drinking water I’ll scream. Sort your priorities out.
THIS WATER SHORTAGE IS THE FAULT OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AND IT’S IMMIGRATION/OPEN DOOR POLICIES THEY PRODUCED. 30 million illegal/amnesty winners since 2000. The EPA estimates U.S. Citizens use 62 gallons of water per day i.e. showering, laundry, cooking etc. etc. If you graphed out the open boarders policies with the migration patterns of illegals to the western states in the U.S. since the year 2000 and use the 62 gallons per day estimate of the EPA, you would see the direct correlation of the draining of Lake Mead. OUR GOVERNMENTS BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL, ARE LITERALLY GIVING AWAY LIFE SUSTAINING RESOURCES FOR FUTURE POLITICAL POWER. I guess we deserve what we are getting. The founding fathers gave us EVERYTHING we need to keep the Republic.
The typical data center uses about 3-5 million gallons of water per day — the same amount of water as a city of 30,000-50,000 people. I would look into the total these facilities use.
California politicians are to blame. They failed. Send em all to prison. Especially, Newsome!!!
So let’s keep bringing illegal immigrants. BIDEN is the best/ smartest president ever. Go BIDEN
When the Martians began to run out of water what did they do? They built canals. Maybe we should take the hint. We seem to be having much rain here in the EAST. Now, who could use some of this water? When dust gets into the atmosphere what color does the sky become? What do we call Mars? The red planet.
i hope they all sweat to death then people will see that we need coal plants to produce more electricity
plant near the ocean then they can use sea water
Several years ago our city was in a drought, they threatened us with heavy fines and patrols if we were caught watering when we were not supposed to. After that long summer things got better. 2 years later no restrictions at all, however they raised the water rates. Why….Because they did not sell enough water during that drought.
Stop the Nestle corporation from draining our groundwater and selling it back to us in plastic bottles.
Amazing that nobody cares of saving the environment but however it didn’t rain into the West Coast right there edit the hottest dritus ever in bigger history but nobody see this one coming anyway too little too late because four scores and four years ago we have the worst president ever that it doesn’t care about the volumen but however he sign of agreement so we’re in 2019 but it’s too little too late for that because he pulled out the plug overdevelopment and he cut the wire and that guy name is ex-President loser King Trump he doesn’t care about it now you know so if the water’s going down letter down anyway don’t you see it’s going to be the hottest one ever including daughter of in the future will be getting the first consequences for the West Coast in the US but only matter in time that’s my favorite word right there everyone because the farmers that they should have taken very seriously about the environment but they never have emergency or backup plan they just like a 12-bottle a judge is going to rain right there and we’ll be fine I guess what you never have so many farmers are going to lose their job and many farmers is going to be grab bankruptcy now you know and your favorite food grows on Mother Earth soil but guess what is not coming anyway the west coast is going to be the consequences than ever in the US that the punishment Mother Earth
Water cut-back next year? What are you waiting for?
Time to sell your house before it’s worthless
US should be a the highest tier of the water limits. your using more water than your getting back and there is no foreseeable future you will get the water back so fast.
