After an increasing number of patients became violent at Cox Medical Center in Missouri staff members were given personal panic buttons. It uses a GPS tracking system so security can locate employees when they are in trouble. KYTV’s Madison Horner reports.

All of your needs are met through an employer and all access to the greater benefits of society is attained through employers so when employers no longer require labor capacity all the necessaries of life are again separated from individuals. It’s a hospital. Not a psych ward.
Most everyone is suffering from PTSD. Mental health clinics are needed. We are in a pandemic. These should have been available as soon as we went into lockdown….way before a vaccine was available. People are breaking under the stress from every side. Creating more division only fuels this. I guess mental health wasn’t in the budget. Really America? This is the best we have? Every Mind.body and soul will need some type of healthcare. But healthcare is big business here in the US…..THEY DON’T CARE. THEY are watching it burn
It’s a two way street on this, many of times I have seen doctors & nurses treat patients with disdain & disrespect, & you know, the patients only are able to report the behavior & 9 times out of 10 nothing is done, so like I said..TWO WAY STREET. I’m not saying patients have the right to become violent, however I am saying we all should be treating each other much better.
I’m sure there are stories on both sides, so it bothers me, how this is only pointing out the behaviors of patients. I’ve seen medical professionals act as if the patient is not worth their time, or beneath them, especially if they don’t have medical insurance. I guess I’m saying, clean up your own profession, before you start complaining about how people act.✌🇺🇸

For the record, some of these patients aren’t in their right mind when doing some of this. Yes, some are just a-holes but others are the ones who would never do anything like this normally. Brain injuries/heart attacks where oxygen has been deprived to the brain can make someone e combative who wouldn’t normally be

Hospital staff has always dealt with patients like this. Nowadays it is just happening on a daily basis and not just in the looney bin wards.
I was in training to be staff at a Psych Ward once.
Some places have sectors for Aggressive patients.
Others are for Manipulative ones.
Nowadays, all of this is just seen as a “How things are.”
And a genre of Adult Entertainment….
Many years ago, people were shunned by their community for this stuff.

Everybody in a hospital that makes it tick. Doctors down to housekeeping. Everyone working in a hospital is a blessed servant.
It is frustrating TO patients and staff. Stress and fear can do a lot of things to a patient, but the choice of violence and abuse demonstrates the decline of our civilized society into one where SOME people fell they have more rights than others, in particular the right to be stupid and rude!
I have been seeing quite a bit of preliminary data on grey matter changes in the prefrontal cortex and other areas of the brain in people who experience fever or require supplemental oxygenation due to COVID-19. Also now hearing about mood changes and aggressiveness in COVID patients. Seems these two may correlate significantly.

I’ve had almost four years of cancer treatment (in remission) and saw some crazies. These heroes deserve to feel protected. In the cancer ward mistakes do happen and people can get very very angry.

Anybody who turns violent in a hospital without a known mental health disorder needs to be kicked out and not treated.
As an RN for 25 years now, I have seen and experienced a lot….unfortunately, patients, no matter how they behave, disrespectful, or physically or verbally abusive to staff, always have their rights, and nurses and frontline workers are less protected or “ believed “ by the hospital administration. It’s a shame and it’s a disgrace to the profession!
Yup. It’s administrative folks that purchased an online certifications and degrees who make decisions that effect staffing levels and support services. Never knowing what the frontline people go through. Never caring to expose themselves because they are slightly aware that they decide issues based on profit or loss. Bottom line it’s all about the money.
They didn’t say the type of patients who are violent towards the nurses but my guess that it is most definitely anti-vaxer patients who are commiting these acts of violence. Statistically people with mental illnesses commit LESS violent crimes than people without mental illnesses. Just FYI because I see too many Sanist comments here. Don’t just throw your frustration at people with mental illnesses every time people act out, especially since you yourself could develop a mental illness in the future.. ANYONE can. One summer during college in the 80’s, I worked at a State Hospital. We carried a key on a cord around our waist to enter secure areas. I remember my first day being trained in self defense and proactive protection methods. First day no medical training at all! It’s gotten worse but some jobs are just dangerous when dealing with upset traumatized people!

Violence in hospitals has been going on for decades, and considered part of the job. For people who think this is bad you need to look at nursing home/ Subacutes too.
No disrespect but there have been incidents on both sides.. how many cases of staff being unreasonably rude to patients are go unreported? We only know of few..
Health care workers have to be safe as much as patients. The system needs to be thought through deeper.. cant keep implementing systems just to test them and find out they are hurting someone else

A friend of mine is valet for a hospital. He has been issued pepper spray and the guards have been trained and issued TASERS

I was placed in a headlock by a male patient that was confused and naked while doing a patient safety check at midnight. He was an active duty Sheriff so he was in shape and strong but luckily he had a sore distended abdomen and I was able to hit him hard enough to get released because I couldn’t talk at all he was choking me so tight. His wife woke up to the commotion and she was trying to pry his arms off of me too and he elbowed her in the face, breaking her nose and cheek. He apologized repeatedly once he gained his faculties but it was scary.
The question is “How do you treat the ones who did not take the “v?” Is that why you need the buttons?

I bet its the other way around because I remember waking up in the hospital a couple times and attempted to escape, where I was wrestled down by several staff. This is about Medical Martial Law, where Medical Malpractice is being cloaked under the blanket of Covid to hide the Evil Practice of Industrialized Medicine. Particularly how they systematically Culled the Elderly with the jabs and Intubated hundreds into a medically induced coma for profits. They only offer temporary bandaids because there is no money in Cures.
