Lake Mead is at its lowest level in history and is at risk of becoming a “dead pool.” NBC News’ Jacob Soboroff what that means for communities that rely on the lake.

The Great Global Warming Migration coming as some states become unhabitable
Turn on the water hose and leave it running. Or just tell the government to make it rain? https://youtu.be/33GdIBrdmc0
Indeed of limiting water use they allow us to throw water away like nothing. They only care about profit not planet earth.
Fallout New Vegas
We need Trump back now
This is what happens when you sin against nature.
The Hoover dam in my opinion is just a great idea on paper but in reality it messes with mother nature on such a massive scale people don’t even realize. Like just think if the water would flow naturally to those areas would Cali have as bad dry seasons and wildfires? Idk just a thought I had. Surprised the desert in Nevada isn’t being used for solar power/wind turbines?
Have Las Vegas build their own lake.
Lake mead: maximum effort!
We are going to have a mad
Max world.
It takes a lot of power to run a desalination plant to make fresh water from sea water. Where does that power come from? Nuclear?–shut down. Solar? cannot run at night. Wind? –cannot run when the wind is not blowing. Hydro? Ha ha, the dams and reservoirs are dry. Pollution is issue #2. Take all the pollution and salt from the water. Where do you put it? Where? Reverse osmosis strips that from the water. The RO membranes have to be flushed frequently. So that concentrated water pollution is pumped (using electricity) far out into the ocean where the concentrated pollution kills more sea life thereby creating a dead zone in the Pacific. Way to go California…..
The salty wastewater is not pumped far out into the ocean. It is dumped into pools which decrease the salinity and then release it at the shoreline.
Time to fire up those coal power plants.

Another man-made failure
What is trully sad, arizona, las vegas, are fastest growing areas in america,The people keep coming,Where are they going, when the water runs out,and it will.People living there, need to pack there bags, and go elsewhere,When the water runs out, your house will be worth nothing.russ.
Lake mead at its lowest level in history, southwestern population at it’s highest level ever. Could those two things be related? If so, what will be done about it?
I would look into the govener of California’s water management policies? Yes people believe it or not the government of California has been letting more than half of ALL stored resivoirs that ALL but 1 in 2019 were full AT CAPACITY! The water management is to let that water being stored into the ocean to claim that climate change is at fault. They achieve 2 objectives by doing this. They FOOL the world about global catastrophe so they can justify their actions plus they receive billions of dollars from federal government for disaster relief! Then they can filter that money into their own shell coorporations or private contractors that they own stock in. Did ANYONE KNOW that nancy pelosi bought millions of dollars of stock from Tesla coorporation and then no more than 2 months later the WHOLE state of California now ALL use Tesla vehicles for government fleet. Then this infrastructure bill that they are trying to pass would give 300 million dollars to fix nancy’s favorite park which she WILL RECEIVE 20 million dollars for her services? THIS IS WHY PEOPLE GO INTO politics? President Trump is the ONLY politician that LOST MONEY during his term!!
Source?
Agenda 21 💀
Hay steal the water from the Mississippi.
I truly do believe running out of water might cause the start of the end
Water is plentiful. The problem is the rich don’t know how to stop wasting it, and the agricultural companies keep demanding water-intensive crops be grown in the desert. If you remove the water demands of farming, industry, and the rich, the rest of us use less than 10% of the water.
40,000,000 thirsty people, might have thought about how best to save water when they had water to save !!!! Don’t depend on the people in the government to help, they’ll get all the water they want for golf courses and swimming pools, drinking ,and showering ,washing machines and life won’t change for the rich!!!! 2021
In other news, locals report a strange creature surfacing in Lake Mead. So far, photos of the so-called *Lake Mead Monster* are grainy and underexposed.
Most importantly: stop farming water-intensive crops in a desert. Then move water-intensive industry to the Great Lakes region. Stop watering hundreds of massive golf courses in the southwest. Stop filling Vegas with artificial lakes, canals, and pools for the rich. Stop covering middle-class neighborhoods with rows of lifeless lawns that are watered heavily but never used by the occupants.
Moronic comment of the thread. Just the fact that you stated “move Ag production to the Great Lakes” shows how clueless you are. have you ever seen a tomato field around the great lakes in January? Wonder why not?
@Dman Nevada Greenhouses are an engineering problem, easily resolved. Water scarcity is not.
@Cosmo Djinn There is not a ‘natural” water scarcity issue in the traditional sense, it’s a human created usage issue. Water isn’t going anywhere, but, when one region on the country is essentially “exporting” that resource to the rest of the country, you’ll eventually reach “peak” fruition as we are seeing. The Colorado River, or the west for that matter, can’t be the primary supplier of what is referred to as “soft” agriculture, and not start having water issues as the population and demand grows without reducing that consumption, or adding another water source. Think about these facts.
1. Over 90% of N. America’s winter fruits & veggies produced from Oct-Apr are produced with Colorado river water. That’s not even considering the year round production, or the production sent internationally.
2. Calif is the largest “soft” Ag producing state. Florida is #2. But, in hectares, Calif’s production is 40x larger than Florida’s. The difference between the #1 & #2 states is 40x. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MOMENT.
3. The BOR’s own data states that in some years, as much as 83% of the Colorado’s flow rate is being used to irrigated crops.
Where you aware of any of the facts I stated?
So you see, this is about a management issue. Tech & the global economy changed the game. We can now produce Ag 24/7 365 all over the world, something unavailable on this scale just a few decades ago. At what point in history, if you lived in say Minneapolis, Montreal or NYC, you didn’t have access to the plethora of Ag available today, you had to can you fruits & veggies to get through the long N. American fall/winter/spring and store them in fruit/canning cellars. Fruits and canning cellars were common just 2-3 generations ago. They were made obsolete by tech.
American’s soon may be forced to go back to “canning” like previous generations once did, or get used to a limited supply at their grocery stores if the water being exported is not replace with another source. That is a reality Americans may face soon.
You don’t need to grow cotton in Arizona. It can grow in any southern state. We don’t need dairy in the west. You can get cheese from Wisconsin and drink oat milk from south Dakota instead of cows milk. We don’t need to grow rice in California.
@James Tucker True, but growing rice or cotton will not end until a century of water agreements are backed out, and use it or lose it ends. As one agency manager once stated…”changing a century of negotiated & litigated law is a political nightmare of biblical proportions”. She was right. This is political because it’s jobs and tax revenue. If you were at the end of this, you’d be political too.
Also, Wisconsin produces some of the best dairy products in America. But Wisconsin can’t produce dairy on the scale Calif does for a variety of reasons, particularly, commodity dairy. Calif has been the largest dairy producing state for generations, you and I will be dust to Earth before that changes. It’s nice to say or think something, but it’s not reality. Do you think Calif’s dairy industry is just going to give it up…then you don’t know human behavior. Just say’n.
Raise the bottom of the lake. We always need another landfill.
Over population and mismanagement, misused what ever you want to call it, well home prices ought to go down soon as water runs out.
Truck desalinized water
Stop giving all the water to Southern California
Are we sure this is a problem?? Let me call an expert.
-Deadpool walks in.
The hoover dam doesn’t “help keep the lights on in Vegas”. Vegas doesn’t receive power from the Hoover Dam, with one exception. When the new turbines were installed, some of that increased efficiency was directed to a few Govt buildings in S. Nevada.
But President Trump said global warming is not real. He wouldn’t lie to us.
We really have to apply more resources into creating a feasible and economical desalination process.
Wow, our Republic is being stressed to more than we can take. Maybe we should stop mass migration. We just don’t have enough.
Hydroelectric Washington
Liberal run cities strike again. Miss manage everything
Don’t like the Thought of ‘Recycling Waste Water’… not Me Thanks
Gotta work together and cooperate
Somehow or another it is all Donald Trump’s fault
its really sad but never should gave built the Hoover dam in the first place. was a joke just to divert water to California and power.. when they should have left the area a ranching area.
Honestly why are they waiting until 2022 for cuts backs
CA government killed and stalled most desal projects years ago. Now they stand around and say we are in a drought.
It’s all fake kids. The proposed “solutions” will line the pocket’s of the politicians and lobbyists.
We can make rain, look it up
Forget about farms, hydro power and the rest, it’ll all come crashing down once there’s no water to DRINK.
House of cards we relied on is blowing away….
Just make sure the climate change deniers get last dibs on the water.
My 2 cents… if it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down. 🚽 Lived in Reno and Vegas for nearly 40 years. I’ve been conserving water since I was young. Vegas used to pay residents to remove their grass lawns and use desert xeriscape. Don’t know if they still do. I also remember something about how new housing developers were not allowed to plant grass at all. I now live in southwest Georgia. What a difference. No lack of water and vegetation as thick as the Amazon jungle. Zero need for irrigation , drip or sprinkler systems. Something that would be unimaginable in Reno.
Surprised they haven’t blamed it on Trump.
They say “You don’t miss your water until the well runs dry”. Well Duh!! Nature is in charge. Humans are just along for the ride.
Can’t they just blame Trump , like they do about everything else?
What do you expect? We have polluted our planet, poisoned our water, we have corrupted everything on the earth. Rain is a blessing, and we don’t deserve it!
So shutting down LA’s only nuclear plant (San Onofre) was a mistake…right?
Climate change is a myth they said. There you go.
Native Americans shouldn’t have to ration before Vegas hotels. For that matter, the rest of the country should bear some responsibility for rationing, since it takes so much of the Colorado via California produce: the US gets 2/3rds of its fruits & nuts and 1/3rd of its vegetables from California, including almost all almonds, strawberries, grapes, lettuce, olives, kiwifruit, honeydew melons, garlic, artichokes, broccoli, processed tomato products, clingstone peaches, and even 80% of its oranges, despite Florida. And California is the US’ main dairy, cotton, and alfalfa supplier.
If you can pump oil cross country you can pump water as well.
Make rain like Dubai
Let’s start SOLVING this problem with FREE BIRTH CONTROL for everyone. If that doesn’t work, put it in the municipal water systems in every city in the US. We can do our part, and every other country on the planet should do it, too. Not later, now.
water that lawn.
The surface water disappearing is a serious problem, but the bigger problem is the farmers fighting to have their wells go deeper than each other. Eventually they don’t be able to go deeper, the aquifers will be gone and don’t replenish for thousands of years. It’s time to switch to more efficient farming systems like Aquaponics, that also can eliminate food deserts and can survive climate change easier because everything is grown in a climate controlled greenhouse.
Artificial clouds.
Scary stuff ..
I still don’t understand why they don’t build a WATER pipeline from the east because we always have flooding.
Build a pipeline from Louisiana since the Mississippi is there.
That would been affordable, without the bank and corporate bailouts doubling the national debt. Use existing channels, when possible, to automatically run Mississippi flood water westward, instead of drowning New Orleans.
Hopefully people living in this area have a backup like owning land in Canada or further north.
Switch marijuana just to medical again. Lessen the fields would be a good start.
How about we start funneling rainwater to Mead from all those wet areas In th USA.
Hayduke Lives!
Mass exodus of everyone west of the Colorado plateau within the next 25 years.
Wow maybe this will finally get people to realize living in the desert is a bad idea.
All you ungrateful people should have been using water wisely, not wasting it! Implement water catching at your homes. You can collect water with plastic(condensation)! You better start, lol!
It’s probably not true. This is just one of the things they are using for funding!
ill take my house with a pool in the midwest for 1/4 the cost anyday ! add in cheaper power .15 per KW. and gas its a win win !
Yep, so add golf courses and massive water wasting chip factories in the Arizona desert to further compound the problem. Genius reporting here as no one cares to identify the problems and solve them.
I just moved to Maricopa county last year! Now I need to start planning to move out! Ugghh! No Water.
Colorado river: I am drying up!
Aral sea: first time?
Better switch to solar power …FAST!!
What will get the west first, the failed Leftist policies or the loss of water? Well, the first will leave you broke and miserable, so what’s the difference?
It’s only water… it’s not something people really need… we need to spend more time on important things like the stock market…
Maybe bring down the cost of jet fuel so I can fly my private jet every day…..
Showers gonna have timers built in?😱
Cities should be the first to get water cuts…
BUT….The Golf courses will be fully watered and green….No problem!
California has floods and fires, use 1 to limit the other.
Tends to happen when every city within reach keeps sucking more water out of it than is being replinished.
What global warming? It’s made up according to trumpets..
There shouldn’t be so many people living in the desert
If you are farming in a desert… You are wrong. QUIT TRYING TO FARM A DANG DESERT!
What passes me off is that there are solutions but NO political will to do anything about it.
China fixed the Losse plateau, the desert was greened in Jordon, entire forests have been developed in India.
Simple swales and replanting of permaculture guilds (trees/shrubs) allowing the soils to absorb every drop that falls vs letting it wash away even more soil.
The problem isn’t the drought. The problem is Colorado taking millions of gallons of water that it sends down the East Slope to the Platte River and then it goes on to the Missouri the Mississippi Rivers.
Gee, it almost makes me think that shutting down California nuclear plants might not be the best way forward.
Climate change agenda?
Stop bring illegal people to America!!!!
The Leftists have got this, they will make it illegal to die from dehydration. There, problem sovled.
Dubai send Electric ⚡️ charge to clouds ☁️ to force rain in there region while are U.S Government do nothing but Frighten people with Low vibrational news that they already have solutions to 🤦🏾♂️ 😣
Problem is farmers are growing Alfalfa for the Saudis. Theyre paying to use up the U.S. water
We need to start building a piping system to take rain water from the northeast and move it west……New York is flooded right now
If they could do it for oil they can easily do this
Officials have been sounding the alarm about Lake Mead for over 20 years! I was there in 1999 and saw firsthand how low the water levels were by just looking at the banks of the lake and rivers. The population in the Las Vegas Metro region just keeps growing. Recently, Henderson, NV was the fastest growing areas of the entire country. That is the true problem. Overpopulation in an area that naturally doesn’t have the resources to handle that much usage
Stop farming in the desert FFS
Just prepare everybody they’re planning these disasters they’re putting this water into the other ground reservoirs for the underground bases somethings coming look at all the reservoirs around the United States they’re all draining it’s not evaporation.👽👽👽👽👽👽
All homes should start capturing rainwater. Start planting trees and make scars on the landscape that help water soak in and recharge the aquifers. Start now.
Im Navajo don’t take the water from us. That’s all we have left.
