@Henng Guel Juan Carlos When Lord Mountbatten (a close member of the royal family via German bloodlines “Battenberg,”) was assassinated by the IRA in 1979, Thatcher took it very seriously. She also went into full battle mode against the wishes of Reagan over a small British island (the Falklands) at the bottom of the Atlantic and won, when Argentina tried to claim it for themselves. Kidnapping the Queen of England and head of state to the British Commonwealth (although preposterous), would be tantamount to an act of war. WW1 was fought over an Arch Duke. It’s a silly scenario to begin with, but hypothetically speaking nothing would stop England from sending everything from the SAS to it’s entire fleet into the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe Seal Team Six in a joint effort with Mexico’s Cuerpo de Fuerzas Especiales may take a peice of the action?

10 aircraft from VMFA 211 are on board the carrier to primarily since the RAF hasn’t received enough jets to staff a sufficient carrier air wing and to also have a good number of F35’s at home in case of war closer to home since the F35 makes up the entire stealth capability of Britain but also to show china that we are not afraid to work together since for a part of the deployment the strike group will sail through the south china sea but its also to see if us marines will work on a British carrier since its no secret that the US is keen on potentially having a full US air wing on one of the 2 carriers for a deployment since the carrier was designed for the F35B and the ‘ski jump’ allows the 35b to take off with a full payload and with a full payload which is something the us marines cant do with the F35 onboard any US carrier or amphibious assault ships also USS the Sullivans is part of the carrier strike group

As a former Royal Marine of 24 years service I am not surprised by this we have very close cooperation with the USMC. We have USMC at our Commando Training Centre as we also have Marines in the US of A. This is cross fertilization of ideas and comradeship. The USMC at our Camp pass the Commando course to serve there. 41 Commando served in Korea and was at the Chosen reservoir.

Coming from someone who served and is generally curious. If you were an American service member, would you bow to her or is a salute customary as she isn’t our direct head of state?
The British mlitary dont bow to her, they salute her as their commander in chief. Members of other nation’s military salute her as a senior officer. In fact, the Royal Navy doesn’t even stand when drinking the royal toast, but remain seated.

What a cool experience for those marines. I wonder what their role is.
To fly and maintain their USMC F35’s and learn British operating procedures so that they can use each others carriers.
They are also evaluating the British rolling landing system to see if it is something they want to introduce to USMC operational capability.

It’s a shame we can’t even fully staff our own carriers. What if we want to go somewhere the Americans don’t want to go? It’s happened before, Falklands, Suez, etc.
It’s just while waiting on all the ordered F-35s to be delivered which should be in a few years time, technically the UK has more than is currently on the carrier at the moment, but many are being used for other things, at a push they could deploy more if needed.
