The US has just said “We will give Ukraine the weapons it needs to defend itself”. Why did it not do so more than 6 weeks ago? Did it not need the weapons THEN?
Because the optics are bad when your president has a low approval rating and pushes for war and when the same people pleading to get out of Afghanistan are pushing for weapons in Ukraine less than 6 months later. Also, I spent my entire youth being told we were wrong to jump into Iraq, so what’s wrong with being careful and deliberate in this instance?
I don’t understand the US sometimes. They spent billions and billions of dollars in Afghanistan, sent young men to die for a country with corrupt government and people unwilling to fight on their own yet here is a democratic country of Ukraine fighting like lions not only for their own interests but also in behalf of all the free countries and still holding back their support. Crazy.

What I understand is that IF Ukraine was a member of NATO we’d be supplying jets as well as all the other weapons. Biden, himself, said that the decision not to supply jets was that he was trying to avoid WWIII. And what about the other nations…where are their jets? What I don’t understand is why they aren’t a member of NATO. I’m going to look into this…okay, I’m back….seems Putin is using this matter as grounds for war….our country is neither helping nor opposing Ukraine from doing so but France, Germany and a few other European countries are opposed. As the flagship nation of all Western democracies, the US needs to lead by example and accelerate their weapons programme to meet the urgent needs of Ukraine NOW, not next week or the week after.

An expensive fighter jet will be an incredibly attractive target for Russian drone strikes as well. It will also have survivability issues over a battlefield that has heavy Russian surface to air missile presence.

A neutral status would allow Ukraine to maintain good relations with both Russia and NATO member states, which could help resolve the conflict and the world will benefit.

it is a good thing that EU and nato has accepted Putin’s return nato to 1997 border offer. As we can see many current nato member states are sending theirs weapons to Ukraine just to be destroyed, so in a few weeks time when it officially announced and US returns to 1997 position all those now ex nato states will be weaponless and will pose no treat to Russia and there will be peace.
