The EU had a long time to make better choices. France and Germany relied on an unreliable source like Russia because it was cheaper than investing in RELIABLE long term solutions from trusted partners. Its THEIR cheapness that resulted in Putin getting undeserved power over Europe.

I hate to say this, but… I really hope [this information wouldn’t be public] that NATO leaders have given Zelensky a deadline by when to strike an agreement with Russia, and I hope it’s before fall (or all supporting measures would cease). Though the ideal moment would have been weeks ago, now Putin has the Donbas anyway…
Ukraine is not going to win it back. Putin is not going to be defaced, Russia is not going to be crippled to the extent that it has to give up on its imperial aspirations, Russia is not going to be isolated internationally, Russia is not going to be short on demand for their gas. Putin may die soon, but you can be sure that whoever would come after him would not be much better.
I most certainly don’t want Putin to win. But I don’t want a Pyrrhic victory either, and when you realize you can’t win, you have to minimize damages; when you can’t get what you want, you have to take what is least undesirable. It may not make a huge difference for Ukraine anymore, but for the rest of us it does. And while I’m not expecting Ukrainians to understand this, I hope our leaders do.
