Flood waters are pushing levees to their breaking points. This afternoon, a levee near the Myakka River was compromised, forcing hundreds to flee. The death toll across the state is exploding, with at least 77 now dead. About 35 of those from Lee County alone. More than 5,000 Florida National Guard members are working alongside FEMA to provide relief while neighbors pitch in to help those who lost everything.

Why do people put up with multi-millionaire corporate elites who refuse to address the devastation they are causing on this planet by refusing to move toward sustainable energy sources? What will it take? How many super storms? How many homes gone? How many lives lost? Who pays for the devastation? Not them! It’s only going to get worse.
Because Florida happily voted in DeSantis, thus supporting his abhorrent policies, they should know well that DeSantis went on public record stating that the Federal government would be fiscally irresponsible to give money to states with hurricane devastation. Therefore, as horrific as these scenes are, by Florida’s own words and deeds they should get NOTHING.
Yes, DeSantis came with hands out once Florida was hit, but really, Florida should reap what they sowed. Maybe next time they’ll elect someone with a hint of empathy and compassion to those in different circumstances than himself.

I left Florida years ago because of the abject poverty and the fact that the people in Florida seem to love having political leaders who are criminals and do nothing to help the middle class. Even neighbors pinching in?? Let me tell you that before rescuers were even going to the island and flooded areas to rescue folks, the community was already doing search and rescue. Us locals are putting bbqs together, local restaurants are providing free foods and people who extra room in their homes are providing shelter to families who lost everything.
We are doing A LOT more than just pinching in.

Horribly Tragic… Maybe now Floridians will see that DeSantis and 20 yrs of Republican rule in FL, will see how little Republicans have done, to build safety nets and good infrastructure.

I’ve seen hurricane destruction and other natural disaster news alot of the years. they never seem to build in a way that would hold up to a hurricane. what type of housing would stand up to hurricane weather? brick housing? stone housing? cement? build house up off the ground as high as you think is sufficient to be above flood waters. 4 feet up. 8 feet up ect.
perhaps it is time to move to higher ground? Leave Florida for good folks. Let common sense rule, there is plenty of land with in the usa that is safe. stay in Fl at your own risk.

I grew up near Arcadia. The pictures my friends back there are post are wild. I left the state about 10 years ago to get away from the crazy people and crazy natural disasters. I now live just outside Yellowstone.
