South Korea is in mourning tonight as police search for clues on how a night of festivities turned so tragic. Massive crowds of people were trying to fit through a 13-foot-wide street, with witnesses saying there were too few police around to control the mass of people. More than 150 people died, and at least 130 were injured. Authorities say nearly all victims were identified. Most were in their 20s and 30s and were mainly women.

#Seoul #Stampede #SouthKorea
This is another sad example of the selfishness and lack of compassion for others. A stampede of humans acting like animals is disgusting. Shame on the narcissistic ones who ony cared about themselves.
South Korea has 50M population (1/6 of America) but its land size is only 1/100 of the US. Moreover, half the population lives in Seoul and its satellite cities. The population density itself is a huge problem.
It has been okay, because festivals have companies or any organizers in charge. However, Halloween has been a pretty recent trend in Korea. It wasn’t big until 10 years ago, but it has been getting popular with the costume trends over social media. Since the “festival”-ish thing was based on voluntary participation without any organizers, no one was in charge of the crowd control.
These are the backgrounds behind this whole thing.
Learn from this! no more big crowds? 💀
Crazy people ever before rip..
Whoa that is narrow 😖😬
이런 일이 일어나서 기쁘다
I love, love how it doesn’t matter what tragedy happens. Either in the US or in another country, democrats blame either police or Trump. The reporter just said it was so crowded and apparently people can’t walk with out police directing them like cattle. Seriously Liberals stop. Some times other factors are at fault, besides police.
The Korean gouvernment should have never lifted the restrictions. Korean people do not know how to behave in public. There is a lack of common sense.
some people said it’s karma because they were mocking up the dead people in kanjuruhan football tragedy in indonesia lol
Crowd surge fleeing from a disaster is one thing, but during a celebration…do people just tried to force their way through?
I tend to think this and if so, it’s pretty disgusting and irresponsible. Personal space is out the window. If you’re close enough to be breathing on someone, something’s wrong.
Bless each and every Family, Much Love from America 🇺🇸 Im so sorry about all of this
Why are you blessing and being a bigotted American when only 2 Americans died and this is S. KOREA…
I really think you aren’t you’re just doing what most people do for movies to anything:
“Reacting”
you didn’t have to mention America or the flag at all.
this country is corrupt at the seems you obvious live a stable life to even act like you care. Many of us don’t and deal with the injustice daily.
Why do shootings happen daily I wonder? In our wonderful country.
stop Halloween party
Over 100,000 people swarmed into the tiny area of Itaewon a blocks which only span a maximum of 1.4 kilometers. Thousands of revelers came to celebrate Halloween in the foreigner friendly district to visit various bars, clubs and restaurants dressed in costumes. The massive number of visitors was due to the recent lifting of restrictions which had been set in place at the beginning of the Covid pandemic in late 2019.
That’s why it’s inexcusable that there was not any planning of crowd control. So terrible that it takes this huge tragedy for South Korea to make sure about crowd control.
WHY?
@firenze55 how can they do that when thousands have come. It’s a public space and there where police in the area but there were too many people contain and control
They all r mad
It’s so sad and traumatic how in one second that stampede was produced. People were just having fun and suddenly it became a tragedy. Also the biggest question is why the stampede occurred there and because of what? Hope they can investigate and reveal the real cause.
Our biggest condolences to Korea, the victims and their families. You are not alone Korea, we gave you our biggest support 🙏🙏 RIP
#PrayForItaewon #Itaewon #SeoulStampede
I heard that due to the slope some people slipped and caused a domino effect
@sazzlepop Lol good one
The core of the issue is Korean’s trust in authority figures. Culturally, they’re taught that authority figures are to be trusted no matter what. Back in the ferry disaster, students were told to return to their cabins by the ship’s captain despite them noticing water coming in. The captain left and the students drowned waiting in their cabins. The same thing happened here. The Seoul PD noticed a sudden crowd surge when a singer began to perform on the street. They contained them into a city block and while the stampede occurred were told to remain in the street despite noticing a danger. Overall the fault is to do with the authority figures and how they handled crowd surges but the societal issue stems from citizens trusting authority figures despite knowing there is a danger.
@Dan I don’t wanna go or step foot in Korea anyway. They have no commonsense.
When you see massive crowds. Something terrible could happen.
The Families’s victim must be devastated or full of anger.
@Christophe Michael Clarence I am half-Korean and do not trust anything Korean. I grew up around many Korean folks and problem that I saw was they were very trusting with authority. I mean that anywhere that includes churches and schools. As you say they trust authority so much that they would not consider commonsense over what an authority figure may say.
Suffering all to party….for Halloween
Lack of common sense, teach your kids about all types of dangers especially large crowds.
when will people learn to stay away from crowds ?!!!
As a parent you work so hard to keep your kids safe and you have to make educated decisions on where they can go to have fun ater long Covid lockdowns……. I too would have told my kids to head to the party district in town and have some fun……What could possibly go wrong?
I agree with you. Unfortunately, what went wrong was 100,000 plus people converging in narrow streets from different directions with no crowd control. It gets out of hand and scary so quickly. Those poor people who were trapped, RIP.
Yea, I can’t really blame anyone here, even the police couldn’t possibly control these huge amount of people celebrating holloween, it’s tough to control the crowd especially a lot of them were shouting and panicking from all sides of these narrow alleys. RIP
well.. thats 150 new ghosts for NEXT Halloween
My condolences for the the ones who passed away and their families.. i am thinking what could be done to prevent this chaos and the deaths of people.. the music could be stopped in the clubs and people could be allowed to get into the pubs clubs etc..more people could climb to the walls or high places with the help of the ones who climbed..the police and health service should have been alert and ready for the possible problems, as the halloween party brings too many people together..i mean, there had to be some official team who watched the crowd and took necessary precautions for the control of the abundant people..Korea is famous for it’s intelligence and develoled technology..the whole area could be observed with cameras and drones, and necessary action could be taken before it’s too late..how you protect your own children, how you feel responsible for their healths and lives, the same care and responsibilty should have been taken for the the guests, tourists and teens there, who were also the children of someone..yes, it’s time for mourning now, but not to live similar sad events again later, the flaws leading such a heartache should be discussed..i am a teacher and i feel the any little pain of my students..and now while watching, i see those teens there as my students or my children, and i really feel so sad for them, hearing their calls for help.. please get organized and make social-behavior plans for the next events..every soul in this world, matters..
Deserve HAHAHAAH
This idiotic Generation found out there’s no App for crowd control. The Police prevent crime not stupidity. The 80’s folk have never seen a whole generation weed itself out on Mass. Back to the Future was right, it is just like Demolition Man.
Intellectually developed citizens showing great culture to the world
South Korea’s own fault for this happening. The government getting rid of COVID protocols allowed such an event to even take place. If the crowd COVID protocols such as 50 people at the most at any event then no one would be dead right now. Sad that the government failed them again
I m crying with you
Look on bottom of their shoes
Smoking that Seoul pack
Watch this reporter at 2:22 when she said “very little consolation…”, She was actually about to smile then she went back to acting sorry face…what a fake! May all the victims Rest In Peace and God watch over their family and love ones.
it’s not even their holiday. why are they celebrating?
This is why I keep my boring self home alone with my wine, Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts 💯
For real!!!
돌아가신 미국청년분들.. 삼가 고인의 명복을 빌어요 🙏
Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
After this no one going to celebrate hollowin in south korea
I’m from the US. Since last year, I’ve always been fascinated with the Itaewon Halloween event and I didn’t expect to experienced it. Friday night was the best night I’ve had in my life even though I went there alone. Taking pictures with people in costume and experienced the warmth of the Koreans towards me. I’ve decided to go again on Saturday to meet up with my Korean friend (her first time to experience Halloween in Itaewon) tbh, no one really knows what was happening even though I was only next to where the bodies were laid out. I thought they were just a bunch of drunk intoxicated people being laid out in line. I didn’t know, it was all dead bodies.
@Art Vandelay Actually, it was a severe crush of many people at a bottle-neck, steep and narrow alley way exit to the road. People from different entrances kept coming inside not knowing what had happened upfront per this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsGBiN15anU
@Art Vandelay technically not a stampede, which is people walking over bodies, but a crowd surge, which is people suffocating from the sheer density
@Art Vandelay I heard that due to the slope people had slipped and caused a crushing domino effect
@Hi Hi I was sober when I arrived there. Seeing all the dead bodies laid out in line was unbelievable because it could’ve been me or my friends. Ppl were mostly buzzed (so that’s why I didn’t understand why do the passerby were emotionally unstable) Crimes, guns, street fights is almost nonexistent in South Korea like in the US. The juxtaposition of both tragedy and celebration was in place that really gave me an emotional shock. So that’s why today. I went for a walk in Namsan Tower to be in tune with the natures and trees.
@LasVegas Nevada did you feel something was out of place? It seems odd so many heatt attacks at the same place, with all those young people….fractures, passing out i would get it..but why this heart attack festival? First time i hesr of it
Imagine dying in your Halloween outfit.
Right?! Bad enough to imagine dying in your dirty underwear!
Terrible one girl had a light up outfit it was sad to see her lifeless while her dress lit up that’s horror
Defund the police hits hard! Gotta love liberal politics, they are to blame!
I blame George floyd
What made everyone panic and starting to panic? Was it really about a celebrity was there?
Not really.
one guy is dead – his friend screams – it got relayed all over the crowd – everybody panicked trying to leave the location ASAP.
Rather than leaving one row at a time, they started to push each other.
Rakyat Korea dan dunia bersedih.iteawon pembaham mangsa?
Sending prayers and love to those who lost there loved ones I’m from Sacramento California far away sending lots of hugs and love and prayers all your ways 💕
Weapon of mass destruction from the north landed in the south.
50 heart attacks?? Am i the only one who finds this abnormal??
Officials should plan for this but people should also show judgment; if it looks as though a massive crowd is starting to form, get out. It might seem like fun, but think about it. If nothing else, Covid still exists, but at a most basic level, what if you lose track of your friends, or don’t feel well, or need to use a restroom. It is not worth it. Have a better time on the outskirts and just have a good time. Dance a little, look at the skyline, enjoy a meal or quieter party where you can actually talk and have some space. Don’t go into the middle of 100,000 people. I am so sorry for those who died tragically and for those mourning families. If you do go out, think about your families and yourself and make a judgment – I personally am not going into the middle of that no matter how exciting it initially may seem. I can’t help but think that it could have been even worse with such a mass of people, as shocking as the death toll is. So sad.
😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔
That night was supposedly a fun night for youngsters after the covid restriction but it turned out to be a sad and horrific night. I can’t imagine the trauma of those who survived fighting for their lives. Rest in peace to those who killed and sending my deepest condolence to those families of the victims. Wishing a fast recovery to those injured. I hope it will never happen again.
That was true Halloween
Ow https://youtu.be/BVDyuxiINWM
They need change the road to stair
Question now is:who or what caused the stampede?
It’s very clear that decadent, degenerate masses of bugs who don’t think clearly wanted to party and dress in slutty costumes all in one spot.
ขอแสดงความเสียใจกับครอบครัวผู้เสียชีวิตและผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บด้วยนะครับ 🤍 So sad to hear about the lives we lost at Itaewon . My heart goes out to you guys in Seoul. #Itaewon
HUMAN BEINGS, NEVER LEARN.
ENOUGH TRAGEDY OF THIS KIND, HAPPENED, A THOUSAND TIMES ALREADY.
STILL…PEOPLE, NEVER LEARN.
EVERYTHING IS JUST FUN, FUN, FUN…FOR THE HUMAN CREATURES, THAT NEVER LEARN. FOR THEIR RUBBISH TIK TOKS, AND CHEAP LAUGHS. WHEN WILL THESE, HUMAN CREATURES EVER LEARN???
THAT IS, THE REAL TRAGEDY…TRAGEDY OF THE MIND.
My condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones in this stampede and in the blasts in Somalia around the same day 😥💔
That is truly horrific.
South Korea does not celebrate Halloween. Halloween is an American holiday that wandered into “South Korea,” like “Spring Break,” which wandered into Moab, which is an Indian Reservation in the United States. South Korea did not host the event or celebration of Halloween as these kids just flocked to South Korea of their own volition to the surprise of an unforeseen catastrophe. We can’t expect South Korea to babysit our stupid kids for Halloween because they don’t know what Halloween is all about.
Curiosity killed the cat.
So, so sad,,,, 😔😢🕯️🙏🙏🙏✝️🙏🙏🙏🕊️
Easy solution they could of left to crowed LET’S GO simple
Tak Tahu la Nak kata apa..Allah sudah tentukan semuanya..Mari memperbaiki diri masing2 dekatkan diri pada Allah,,kalau kita redha insyaallah Allah pun Akan redha jga kat Kita…jaga solat..💕.. mudahmudahan Allah bagi hidayah kat semua manusia d bumi ini agar memeluk Islam, mengenal Allah dan rasulullah s.a.w..aamiin
They don’t call it devils night for no reason. Don’t celebrate it.
At 0: 13 Ohh boo hoo your Crying knowing this stuff is all Pagan!
Just wondering, what is the meaning of Halloween celebrations ?
Grim reaper celebrates with them. this is like a demonic party.
Was wondering the same….
Have heard it in the west…Why Korea ???
To party and dress like a french harlet.
Nonsense death
Except Halloween what others rubbish more the westerner can give to the Korean ?
That’s in Korea not America. I find this video to be based on hate and racism. I hate how they are talking about korea but not about the shootings in America. It’s extremely racist, they’re trying to paint koreas as the bad guy, this kind of news is based on hate. What’s the real reason for this video, what are they trying to say?? Are you trying to be racist and hateful ???
NAMO ORMITOFO AMITABHA BUDDHA

people mountain people sea!
Next time better their government ban this kind of huge events in this kind of place. Seems that some people wanted to reach one famous streamer and take photos with him/her. Then the chaos started. We only gonna get the answers when police start to analyse some of messages /phone calls during this tragedy. There’s way to check even without their phones. They only need to get permission from the apps and unlock their messages. Is not invasion of privacy at all. More than 150 people died. Someone is guilty for sure. Tragedy in this case never start without a reason or guilty person. And that person/people must take responsibility for the dead and injured people.
Funny how out of all the Halloween events that have happened in the united states it took a bunch bumbling babbling Koreans dressing up on a day that wasn’t Halloween to ruin Halloween events for everyone in the future.
It happened in a narrow alley where people were trying to get to the other end not knowing what was going on in the middle..!
It is a tragic yet horrible, horrible accident. Do not blame the police..! Itaewon held the World Food Festival at the begging of the same month and finished it successfully attracting more than a million people to the event. Nothing happened then not even one single soul was lost.
Our hearts are bleeding for the lost ones and their families. So many in their twenties lost their lives in this senseless incident.!
No words would comfort any grieving parents’ agony..!
We just stand with them weep together..! Oh., God..!!!
There are literally days when I don’t wanna go outside. 😬
That evil catholic festival should be permanently banned – it has never been practiced in the town of Chillingbourne.
Sending prayers to the families of the victims of this horrible tragedy. RIP to those that lost their lives.
Am I supposed to feel pity for these people?? Common sense in youth has been depleted to the point of non existent. They had no business being in a crowd that big. Now the world gets to sit back and watch the police in Korea take the heat for the morons who died. That’s the real tragedy here.
Anyday now… soon somehow, someone will begin to accuse China and Kim Jung Un, of cooperation in mastermind of this tragedy. The seed has already been sow, as they said the police “were being diverted to a political protest”… and now we watch it grow.
*Debris.* I don’t know about that ma, but from the short view of the streets look more littered with….. *litter.*
Can stop halloween celebration ? It is a work of Satan.
Every body rest in peace 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This is just so horrifying and heartbreaking 💔
RIP and fell so sad for people who lost their family members
They literally fell so sad they died
Wailing of parents is piercing
This is an absolute tragedy. It seems that a lot of the police were diverted moving the president from the Blue House to the new place! I haven’t heard this on the news yet. This event is usually well policed!
It’s better to control the crowd in this kind of event by making sure that there are several spots of events at various distance, so the crowds won’t concentrate into one big blob and can get divided among several centers.
What event? Nothing was organized. The police cannot stop idiots from suddenly going to some place in town. The crowds are to blame, they were foolish and selfish. Got what was cominfg to them too.
RIP🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
So it was real Halloween 🤣 fear and death in masse 😆
I’m Muslim I don’t celebrate Halloween 🎃
So the moral is don’t go near any place where there is a crowd of Asians because they are uncoordinated.
Wow, people are stupid.
1:57 what??? Beijing
❤🙏🏻
can’t wait for the right-wing to turn it into some sort of conspiracy
One death is a tragedy, 149 deaths is a statistic. Well there’s going to be a lot of job openings, slightly less traffic, less pollution. I’d say this was a win. Yes I’m an evil man.
It is going to take time for Korea to deal with this tragedy.
The event can be described as a crowd crush or surge, but not a stampede, said G. Keith Still, a crowd safety expert and visiting professor of crowd science at the University of Suffolk in England. A crush or surge happens when people are packed together in a confined space and there’s movement such as pushing that causes the crowd to fall over. Essentially, Still said, a “domino effect.”
A stampede implies that people had space to run, which was not the case in Itaewon, he said. The more people who are in the crowd, the greater the force of the crowd crush is.
die silly from his stupid deeds
You Christian Buddhists have no compassion, you celebrate a haram holiday knowing that people are dead. Again, your shameless expression of sympathy is foolish, in fact this holiday is illegitimate, if you don’t stop this holiday, there will be even more terrible casualties next year, people get choked to death, my words are not for everyone
so sad
Rip to all Halloween victims 💔.. indians are with you🇮🇳
My heart breaks thinking about the pain all the victims have been through . I pray to god every one dies peacefully but not in pain. The street will not be the same. The shops and all those nearby places won’t be the same anymore. My heart just breaks. My prayer to all those departed souls and their families and those injured🙏
Now you know why the chinese govt banned all st*pid western event in China.
