The McKinney Fire burning in California near the Oregon border has forced firefighters to fall back into defensive positions to protect homes and property while forecasters fear another massive heat wave may be forming. The fire exploded in size over the weekend, from 1 mile to 62 square miles in just 24 hours. While the West is experiencing more fires flaring up, erratic weather threatens to bring dry thunderstorms with dangerous lighting but little to no rain.

Yup. I remember when they did control burns every year. It kept small fires from becoming huge fires. They environments said that control burns are bad for the atmosphere and increases global warming so they stopped. Now undergrowth is out of control and trees are suffocating and dying off, so when there is a small fire, it quickly becomes a HUGE fire.
Also, since so many people live near or in the forrest areas, they prevent and stop small fires every year, those small fires are natures way of cleaning up. But when they are stopped to protect homes, the natural garbage builds up, becoming fuel for large fires.
Fire so hot it mangled metal structures and vehicles, vaporized houses, but the plastic mailbox just wilts. …… I’ve got questions.

Sad truth is that there is so much fuel (trees) for fires that this will continue until the fuel is expended. The only hope appears to be in the form of fuel thinning which amounts to controlled burns allowing for forest floor clearing. Controlled logging is also needed but unfortunately the tree protectors (being polite) don’t like this.
