@avarmauk Google hired tens of thousands a month during the pandemic ,and hired almost 16,000 during in April 2022 alone, so it’s an adjustment but not alarming. Amazon hired 700k employees during the pandemic so calm down.

What I actually think is happening is that you couldn’t get a job at any big tech company and are venting your complex on the internet. Cutting 10% of your workforce is objectively a big deal. If you’re too stupid to see that then my hunch is more than a hunch. You clearly are too stupid to get a job at google to be in the privileged position in which you could be laid of. You’re lucky your country gives handouts; clearly you’re a benefactor of such schemes.

Layoffs are rarely really done based on true performance. It’s investors appeasement more than anything else. Some good comes out of this as more talent joins startups or comes up with startups that end disrupting the Google’s and making them into Yahoo’s in some years down the line.
Big tech over hired employees that they didn’t need. This was eventually going to happen. No one wanted to be the bad guy by starting the layoffs. No one except Elon Musk.

@Libtardsare Funtotalkto If everyone takes a 3 to 5% pay cut it does the same desired effect as cutting 10K jobs without hurting the local economy…. Renters pay rent, stores stay open, other people don’t get fired…. reduction in spending goes down. But yet efficiency/production stays high…… if you went to business school and had an MBA and economics degree like some people you would understand you get the same desired effect without destroying peoples lives, increasing to degenerate drug/alcohol abuse, destroying marriages/families. increasing homelessness, and etc. that is what job loss does. Honestly if the Fed really wanted to stop inflation all the Fed needed to do was increase banking requirements for cash to hold….it does the same effect it withdraws the supply of money so less money is available for goods forcing prices down.

Well, if we’re about to take into account the progressive, Technicolor-like, side of things I guess that people at Google should be grateful they got tishcanned by some desi, skinny guy from Madurai (who’se main reason btw was to keep HIS OWN percentages up) instead of being fired by someone who looks like…Mark Zuckerberg?! I am also impacted. A lot of the tech companies over-hired staff during the pandemic. This is the result of overoptimistic and overhyped. Layoffs is more effective in slowing down inflation than interest rate hike. While I understand a lot of tech workers were shocked, we should be grateful for the well-paying salary we received in previous years (with work life balance). How these tech companies change the world? In the past 7-10 years, kids at grade 4-5th started learning programming, at 11-12th grade they secured internship at big companies through nepotism. Of course, with all these strong “profiles”, they got in the top universities and graduated with a $180K job. Some of these young adults are the ones who got rich so easily. They bought big house, luxury cars, and gambled in crypto. Has anyone asked why doctors or dentists are paid lower than a fresh grad CS? Why are a lot of hard and heart-working teachers paid only 1/3 of tech workers? I am impacted but I am happy to see this reset.

Well the time has come for the jinns to take a break, to slow down, they too need to rest once in a while. Hence ideas are drying up.

So the time being business is affected and there is not enough monies to pay salaries. So lay them off, abruptly. Who cares!

In all probability most of the retrenched employees have already landed jobs elsewhere and dread rejoining given their unceremonious ushering out by the company.

I honestly don’t feel bad, nor can shred a single tear for their situation. Time for these employees to stop with the entitlement, actually grow a backbone, do some ACTUAL WORK, and be humble.
