Drivers and operators of the Philippines’ most popular mode of transport are on strike.
Jeepneys are called the ‘king of the road’.
The government wants to modernise the small mini-buses but the drivers say the cost is too high.

As a Filipino i support PUV modernization, Philippines economy is growing tremendously and fastest, the modern cities are rising.
The government of the Philippines aim to reduce air emissions for healthy air and environmental friendly, clean and green Philippines from rivers to ocean and air…
While these transport groups wanted to be remained old and noisy jipneys on the roads…
They’re called it King of the roads 😜
Modernization is our efforts to impart for climate change…
I hope this modernization efforts will be implemented as soon as possible..
It became big deal because of these modern puv are acquired from China, but also local manufacturers are allowed as well to modernize but the problem is no electric engines for the local manufacturers.
Mabuhay Philippines and god bless us..
Wala naman problema ang drivers at operators sa pagbawas ng air pollution at modernization.
Ang problema ay gusto ng Government mapalitan as fast as possible ang mga jeep. Ang bagong modern jeepney ay over 1 milyon. Sino may ganun pera agad? Pano ang mga mahihirap na drivers?
Ok lang kung may pera sila para sa price ng bagong jeepneys
@Dr. Doctor dude deal was consolidation, meaning of this consolidation para Hindi watak watak Ng leaders nila, mabilis makausap Kasi mga leaders Ng mga jipneys groups Ang dami nila at iba iba Ang prensipyo, if dmo afford bumili Ng unit u can join the coop at least Meron kang siguradong mauwe na pera araw araw sa pamilya mo at may benefits kpa makuha pag tanda mo, d yon ganyan na forever Kong pobre Jan at pag ka retired mo kawawa Ang pamilya mo, at tska nka Aircon Ang drivers…
@Dr. Doctor
Blatant misinformation. Almost every Modern Jeepneys were bought with loans from DBP or Landbank.
20K monthly with a 6 month grace period. If older jeepneys do earn 1K a day according to these leftists, then a single jeepney can earn 30K per month. 6 month grace period then you have 180K to spare.
@Sabalas Exactly 30k without paying for other necessities.
There are some roads that are profitable while some have few commuters. Don’t forget that drivers suffered from lack of jobs during lockdown with some having debts.
The intention of the program is *good* but it’s execution is *bad.*
It is great that the Actona created a cheaper modern jeepney with its iconic look, higher ceiling that allows passengers to stand inside the vehicle, handrails, built-in security cameras, and an environment-friendly Euro 5 engine.
Its price is 1.3-1.5 million compared to the 2.2 million minibusses and electric jeepneys
@Dr. Doctor
You seem to miss the part where I said they have a 6 month grace period which earns them 180K (-30K = 160K left with gradual 10K increases per month)
That’s also false info again about routes being unprofitable as Modern Jeepneys had feasibility studies before launching their routes.
Traditional jeepneys were already allowed to operate on August 2020 so I don’t get why these people are still paying debts for the last 2 years when they only had at least half a year of inconveniences.
You claim that Execution is bad but only 50,000 of the 250,000+ of Jeepneys are the only ones unwilling to Modernize. These people have been given 5 years to modernize btw. They’ve been given instructions since 2017 on what to do but it seems they didn’t do anything then started to whine when the deadline was already up.
Good for Local Jeepney makers for finally stepping up after YEARS of prototypes. People seem to think that LTFRB was holding local manufacturers back when Sarao was already manufacturing Modern Jeepneys but none of these traditional operators cared enough about buying them until today. Really drives home the fact that they’re all talk no action (even this weeklong strike just ended in two days).
Btw as stated by the reply above, There’s no such thing as “Phase-out”, only consolidation. The people going on strike don’t want to Consolidate (join Cooperatives) because they don’t want to share their profits with other operators. Who can blame them though as Modern Jeepney drivers have regulated salaries and workers benefits. Far fetched from their traditional boundary system where revenue is split 50-50 with the operators and insurance is a foreign concept.
Mail love letters honest mutedrivers
Been the the Phillipines a few times and things are great to look at and convenient but brutal for air quality. Somehting has to change and the government should do something to make it happen say funding via loans the addition of polution controls sourceing cleaner engines etc… Those buses they want to bring in are hideous looking and shouldn’t be considered IMO.
I ❤ the jeepney . I stand for the drivers they work hard to run the family please don’t make life difficult for them .
PHILIPPINES is ONE of the FASTEST GROWING ECONOMY in the WORLD… we need to phase out that OLD JEEPNEYS… its very ugly transportation👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Zionists are responsible for the tigil pasada madness
Truth about Mar Valbuena = a puppet of the Judeo-Marcos-Jewterte conspiracy to destroy the Filipino’s dream of Pan-asianism
I love jeepney ❤ 2:16
Mga Filipino nga naman gusto ng pagbabago pero takot mag bago😂😂
Yeah because this aint the change we want 💀
At least make the new ones look cool, the one you showed resembles a weekend holiday of the local care home wth 😱
Jeepneys are fine. Just change the engine to a modern, more efficient and less polluting.
finally someone said it
I’ve always wondered what those things are called.
Tigil pasada
