The mother of Tyre Sampson, killed in a fall from the Free Fall ride at ICON Park, has reached a settlement with the park and ride operator. WESH’s Greg Fox reports.

Dam that’s why I don’t go to amusement parks
One fat kid for millions of dollars? I bet his mom is happy this happend
This was such a devastating story. I’m glad they are getting some closure.
I hope they nail that Austrian company, I hope she makes billions
At least a 9 figure settlement was likely reached. I see her moving on up to a much nicer area.
What parent wouldn’t trade 9 figures to hold their child again?
@Johnny NoDick Alex murdaugh
@Johnny NoDick a black parent
how did he fall off?
The over the shoulder mechanism didn’t lock. Plus the attendants never checked his seat and they shouldn’t have let him on in the first place. When the ride was half way down in the drop he slipped out.
PLUS he slipped out bc the stupid ride tips the seats forward rather than just staying at a 90 degree angle
Rider was too big for the ride.
@babywhirl holy crap. I usual ride these at 90 degree only. Even so it already scary
Too fat
In other words don’t be fat
Wonder what was the $/ pound for the settlement?
Will knowing make you feel better about it?😐
cause I’m freeeeee, free falling!!!!
I would always questions peoples logic, getting on those specific rides. I know that shanty amusement park well, And in no way would i have ever rode most of their rides, neither there nor any similar park across the country. Those are heavily used rides with little to no oversight and inspection of their quality and safety. Nor should anyone be gloated into doing such rides when they are extremely afraid. If a person passes out on the ride the odds of such little restraints keeping your body safely strapped in falls dramatically low. Even as you read this the only reason your not falling out your chair is not due to the chairs support but rather your subconscious directing your body to upright itself, you muscles active in keeping you seated, if you were to relinquish all resistance to fall over, you would just slump over in your chair and likely fall out. this can happen to people in such rides who pass out. Do you really believe that personnel at these parks disassemble bungee cords to see if they need replacing or repair? of course not. they will use them until they fail. more often upon use.
Let’s make it plain. She knew her son was extremely large and overweight. Why would she surrender the safety of her child over to an amusement park concession she does not know? Seeing him strapped into that ride was shocking (as he was so overloaded into the seat). Mom made a choice that day and it was a bad one.
@Chris PNW The kid was hefty but not to the point of breaking out the rides constraints. we havent seen the footage of his ride so we dont know how he broke free. either by way of the locking mechanism failing or possibly by him simply slipping out. regardless whatever occurred should not have. But ultimately people understand the risks, and more often than not, take those risks with those cheap and questionable rides as a joke. People deliberately put their lives in danger for the sake of a cheap thrill. But what they dont know is how many people die every year taking those risks. A much higher percentage than people realize. And notably, in terms of size and weight, indeed. people today on average are much heavier than the time of which many of these rides were invented and put into service. they do have weight limitations as ones weight is multiplied upon the rides active force. I remember as a kid riding those elevated swing chairs that go around a carrosel held alof by chains. a cheap metal chair with a cheap latch bar and held alof by two chains. a simple and fun ride, fine for lightweight people, but today would certainly be a danger unless built or rebuilt for todays specifications. as such. parks like these that would never update their older rides are a definitive risk to peoples lives.
@xevious2501 6’5″ 320+ lbs. It was reported he was turned away from two other rides at the park. In Europe the maximum weight for the same ride is approx. 285 lbs. per the product manual. No maximum weight in the U.S. for the same ride. Experts determined he was too big. If momma and others knew he was rejected from riding other rises that day due to size alarm bell should have gone off. Common sense.
Jokes on you I’m not sitting in a chair reading this 😂
@xevious2501 but there is footage on how he broke free I’ve seen it myself. He slipped out of the gap between the harness and the seat
Blesd het heart losing her baby that way and still so giving 🙏🥀
She says but when you get that kind of money is vacation is all I ever wanted
In English??
That plop sound is not to be forgotten
The “mom” doesn’t seem to hurt over the loss of her boy. Sue seems more concerned about making some money: pathetic. She’s not going to found squat she’s gonna spend all of it
That’s exactly what I was thinking very well said👏👏👏 she said she wants to set up a foundation for her son basically she wants to keep the money flowing.
We will see 🙄
How beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Hey
I send my heart out to the mother.
😅😅😅😅
white males make up 70% of all daily suicides despite being only 32% of the population lmfao
Poor kid I hope the mother and family find peace
🤣🤣
Only there only
Peace when we serve
And seek Jesus
Money dont buy happiness
Wats the big deal, he just wanted to fly
I remember seeing the uncensored video of that kid fell down before his body impact the ground hard followed by screams from the surrounding people.
@IGGER KILLER you need healing, homie
@Wayward_dsheep appreciate the concern but I wouldn’t want your kind of “healing”. Psychedelics. Your probably a dirty hippy with bad hygiene. No thanks
Where can we see it?
@Somnus Waltz best gore it’s a good laugh
@Nate Evans i saw it on facebook back then. I doubt the video is still there and not being removed
😢
God bless you
This child was OBVIOUSLY too large to ride🙄 Obesity kills. Clearly, the ride operators were negligent. They need to be trained in how to tell people they are too large to ride. Also, this boy’s fall could have endangered others on the ground. Our society is too sensitive now, when he should have been told, “No, you exceed our limits.” People need to learn their limitations.
It was a lose-lose situation for the ride operators. Let the kid ride, he dies. However if you don’t let the kid ride, you’re a racist white person discriminating against a black kid. The bad publicity from being racist would have been just as bad for the park.
It can’t be racist if the weight limit rule applies to all people who go on these rides but instead bad management by the ride owners and operators led to this by not following the rules
This has nothing to do with race
He was like God’s poop hitting the pavement
What ever she gonna smoke that money up lol
Terrible way to die
The mom doesn’t care, she’s rich now
Wonder how much settlement was
Cant imagine losing your child on an amusement ride. May he RIP and the family find comfort he is with the lord 🙏🙏🙏💗
Im sure they will find plenty of comfort with that fat check they just got.
@CJ W. You sound jealous and unhinged
@CJ W. yeah the mother didn’t seem too concerned. Probably happy she won the jackpot
@Igga_killer Typical monkey behavior. She has a life time supply of watermelon and fried chicken now. But yet in modern America everyone is brainwashed like this lady and will simp out over this bs.
If there is a weight limit it should have been enforced. My grandchildren have a height limit, for safety reasons, and so I waited until they were tall enough to take them to an amusement park.
You mentioned height? I recall another video made by family members. Their daughter was Excited to Finally B tall enough 4 a water ride? But the daughter had a heart attack n died during the ride. I guess she got to scared during the ride?
Glad they can put a price tag on their son.
$1 for Alexander B
I wish I had never watched that video.
The family is going get millions. The lawyer shows confidence he is going to win the big money. These companies are insane to be so careless with human life.
Weeeee look Ma No Hands
500 million wouldn’t be enough. You deserve to do whatever you want with that money. That’s why I don’t do amusement parks. I’ll walk around watch others enjoy themselves but not I.
All my life im in my 30 now just played the games at the amusements parks im to scared to get on rides poor tyre Sampson I still think about him and cry on the video I was screaming someone help him now please no one help him😡😥
The problem these days with amusement parks, is that they want to make the attractions more and more scary. And that means more and more dangerous. It’s not fun anymore, when you risk your life to have a minutes kick.
People are willing to money to have that thrill. Supply and demand.
Lol please it was his fault
Money will NEVER replace the loss of a child or any loved one. Anyone saying negative things about that Mother who has been traumatized by her son’s horrific death is nothing but a floating turd in a sewer. She will honor him with a legacy of giving and loving.
You sound crazy. Mom is morbidly overweight and so was her son. It is not cruel to ask/expect mom to take ownership for her behavior and decisions that day. Both knew they were too big/heavy for the rides and they did not need someone else to tell them. Others have posted that weight limits were posted yet the son still hopped on the ride. Many a mom would not have let their child approach the ride to avoid disappointment.
A long while ago, I had stumbled across the footage of this boy falling from the ride and it was probably the most disturbing video I’ve seen. I can’t even begin to imagine what was running through his relatives’ heads when they either saw it happen in person or on video. R.I.P to this boy and I pray for his family.
It still scars me to this day smh
😂😂😂😂😂
When did it happen?
A settlement will never repay the person that died
How bout a soul food restaurant
When your 14 yo son is the same height and weight of a fully grown plus man, he shouldn’t have been on the ride but people have no common sense and get sue happy.
like you said a 14 YO at a park.. the operator let the 14 YO on. let’s reiterate 14 YO. calm down Keith
Keith gets a thumbs down.
@Cal Flo at least it’s not 6 feet under..
R.I.P TYRE SAMPSON ❤️❤️❤️ ITS A YEAR LATER AND I STILL THINK ABOUT HIM, IM STILL VERY HEARTBROKEN FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY, THIS IS A TRAGEDY SMH ITS SCARRING ME FOR LIFE. TYRE SHOULD BE HERE, R.I.P BABY ❤️❤️❤️
The irony is a Tyre would have bounced from that height but he just exploded
Sorry for the loss.
@Cal Flo virtue signaling
That video was wild
I was traumatized that poor baby that thump you can hear his entire bones crushed to death i dont know why they did not tell him he could not get on🤔😥😥🙏🙏😡
If he was the size of a normal teenager and not like a wild buffalo.. the harness would have fit him
Strength and healing to the family.
That mom has her head on so straight. So articulate even with dealing with the loss of her son, yes she won, but still, she didn’t really. The idea of wanting to have her sons name live on through helping the community is really awesome
Wow. That’s a beast of a comment and love it.
Why wouldn’t she be articulate? Such a back-handed compliment. 🙄
@ChocoBabiChan because you people are uneducated
I think you are reading too much into it. There isn’t really anything articulate needed to express one’s feelings. It did not say she wants her son’s name to live on, other than obtaining the settlement with the business and who knows what she has plans for.
@ChocoBabiChan it isnt a back handed compliment . Losing a child is the most horrific agony possible , it absolutely shatters you and leaves you unable to function properly , the way you did before . I have always been very articulate and well spoken , I lost my youngest son 4 years ago a week after his 26th birthday and for the first 6 months I could barely put a sentence together , every part of me was/is broken including my brain , I couldnt think of the most common basic words when I was trying to talk , I still struggle finding the words I want to say but I will draw a complete blank and I know I know the word I want to say but I just cant think of it .
At least this woma-N is body positive about it
The workers running it need to be fired & sued. There was a weight limit that they didn’t enforce.
How didn’t anyone see that it was way too tight & he was fitting in it at all. Photos from just before show it clearly. Someone should’ve had the common sense to get him OFF.
Ultimately, however, I don’t think it’s the RIDE that’s an issue. That’s the cause but not the source of the issue. The source is the people running it & not follow guidelines, you know?
I do think the ride ought to be demolished out of respect for him so that no one will ever sit in that fateful seat again. The people around him too must be traumatized.
🙏🏾
Ride attendants should prolly be held liable too, but than again even if they banned him from the ride for his weight they would still be sued regardless…that is how it works tho. We “ALL” lose except the lawyers.
Nah the sensor said he was good for the ride
@non yobussiness They should sue the sensor
@non yobussiness Common sense – the picture of him squeezed into that seat was painful to see. Mom should have decided no – not today Tyre.
Why would she want to see this?
She is seeing Money an all she sees
Thumbs down
Is that really the best picture they could find of that kid? Black people lmfao
the best settlement is to shut down that ride! prevent any more neglectful accidents
I don’t blame that ride or the amusement park, I blame the worker who was controlling that ride that day. Every other rides that the boy wanted to go on, the workers told that kid, sorry but you’re too big for their ride. While this worker allowed him on that one. He was too big for that ride and that’s why he fell out of his seat. I’m sorry for what happen to him, but for amusement parks not allow to use that ride anymore is a stupid reason. It was the worker fault not the ride. I wouldn’t ride it only because I hate heights, but others enjoy that kind of rides. So why punish them for that worker mistake?
Tragic!
I’m estimating she took home at least 4M. Probably was originally 10M but lawyer fees. May he rip.
❤❤❤❤❤
A settlement? She should have gone to court and collect millions. I’m sure the companies got off easy.
GIMMIE my money
Homie was too big and broke the machine
I went to a private golf course that was next to the free fall and I saw the free fall being taken down while playing golf
BIG picture lesson here folks… don’t be overweight
Like Dr Phil said: if you want justice, you don’t go on tv. When you go on tv, all credibility is lost, and the money trap is set.
Edit: why doesn’t she use the money to help improve kids’ health? Being that young and that obese is NOT healthy and it is concerning. So concerning that cps takes children away from parents who let their kids eat themselves to death.
That’s not what matters. Have some respect.
Cmon now the black community don’t care for one another including there own children. The men especially, they abandon there own kind by the dozen.
@It’sJustJayla let’s be real here, overweight people don’t deserve respect, they don’t even respect themselves
How sick. Please get therapy.
Y’all paid? Got receipts?
Name it after him😅
i remember the kentucky kingdom accident like this in Louisville Kentucky years ago. The young girl had her foot cut off when the ride failed and loose cables where exposed. These rides are NOT safe and people should quit riding these types of rides. its not worth it
No matter the amount of the settlement. It’s Gonna B bare Minimum compared to how much Professional Football Players can make!!! Good thing she won.
Wait because your too fat for the ride they’re taking it down?
Maybe big boy shouldn’t have been on the ride ?
Lol she looks like she was in it in the money
Sure, just trade in her 1st born. Comment thumbs down.
That woman is humongous.
Disney character panties are the most cutest and comfortable kind of panties to wear hggc
He knew better geeze and they did too both are at fault
Kid deserved to die? Grow a heart.
😢❤xxxx
New hair, new nails, new leggings, new lashes, new Escalade with spinners
Evil
Sadly but I don’t think I would be able to touch or spend any of the settlement. It would remind me of the accident and it’s victim.
It’s some hateful people in these comments. People are weird and really need to seek professional help
They Don’t get enough attention in their small lives, so they come on here to find it. It’s a contagious sickness really.
THATS BCRAP NOT ENOUGH INSPECTIONS .
Terrible way to pass, absolutely terrible.
This death trap 😂😂😂😂
Actually there’s cellphone footage from another person next to him on the ride showing him yelling “I DONT WANNA LIVE ANYMORE” and was trying to remove his own restraints
Good for her she just won the lottery, 😅 who says kids don’t bring money home ,with out stealing. Lol
def getting new escalades
If I was 14 and weight 250 pounds I wouldn’t trust any ride like that gravity is not on ur side
What does a 14 year old know about the intricacies of an amusement park ride? Thumbs down on your comment for sure.
So sorry for the loss.
Her son was so grossly oversized that it was clear he should not have been allowed on the ride. No matter how disappointed he would have been (by being denied), he would be alive today. Parents: Never surrender your responsibility for the safety of your child over to a stranger. Mom is very overweight therefore, she knew he was not going to be able to ride many of those rides but failed to explain this to her son before setting him off to an amusement park.
People are so naive. Mom does not want the public to see her behavior as a money grab off the death of her son but she knows to get any money she has to let the atty sue as many people as possible to get her small cut (the atty will get the bulk).
RIP brother
i blame god……geezz, thanks a lot jesus. How about actually helping out next time.
I’ve wondered about those amusement park rides and crazy things like that and how many people actually got hurt from them! I’ve been to the parks, just didn’t ride certain ones, and my wife said all you did was walk around most of the time, ya wonder why! The old paratrooper ride or whatever they call it, it’s slippery, you slide around on it, and all there is is a bar that crosses in front of you, that’s not secure! Anybody can fly out of that contraption, I know I was starting to slip out myself! It seems like a cool environment and all that, but the rides are sketchy! Last time I went was in Magic Kingdom in Orlando back in 2000!
It must be terrifying for that boy
More money than the bannana eaters would ever have. Small sacrifice to make
When Haggard mentioned Funtime, he said that the ride doesn’t need seatbelts. Well Funtime, THAT’S CAP! Hope they go bankrupt!
It shouldn’t matter how she’s going to spend the money that’s her business God bless her and her family I hope they find peace
That’s not the amusement’s fault that’s his fault y’all should pay attention and listen to the rules and laws over how much weight can be sustainable that’s not their fault that’s his fault he wanted to ride it with so much weight and didn’t fkn listen to the rules and laws over the weight capacity
How is it their fault when you refuse to listen and see the rules over how much weight capacity is the limit that’s the family’s fault not the amusement’s fault
I remember watching that video. Buddy fell OUT. HIS. SEAT. And hit the ground HARD. Then the carnival workers kept everyone locked in their seats for some reason for an additional 3 to 4 min as they screamed to be let off the ride. Some people were even vomiting on themselves. They had to sit there and smell that poor kid’s entrails “His stomach exploded on the ground when he landed”. One person said the smell reminded him of “bad sewage” 🤢🤮🤢
