#GordonLightfoot #Singer #Sundown
Thank God for blessing the world with this talented man and his wonderful music! I discovered Lightfoot by first hearing Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, but grew to love many of his songs such as Day Before Yesterday, High And Dry, Cherokee Bend, Biscuit City, and Drink Yer Glasses Empty.
I’m not sure what my life would be like had I never discovered Mr. Lightfoot.
The Canadian Troubadour…….rest in peace.
I’ll miss him forever. He’s THE reason I became a singer. RIP, GL! …see you on the other side…..
Born in Orilla, Ontario Canada *
Barrie Ontario Canada…get it right.
No, he was born I land raised in Orillia, not Barrie.
Close but no cigar. Orillia born and raised.
His music reached down to San Diego to a refuge family from Vietnam. And when I think of singer-songwriters, I can’t help but think of his song, “If You Could Read My Mind”. What a master painter in terms of writing. Thank you, Mr. Lightfoot, for creating beautiful works as you have that move the human spirit. “Beautiful” is a song for which I can only imagine what the love of my life – if I were to ever be lucky enough to have – would feel like.
❤️
I wish treasures like him would last to 100. He will be missed. Rest in God’s embrace, Gordon.
Sadly it’s drug and alcohol abuse that catches up with people later in life.
He was neither of these. He was a work out fiend, had been since the 90s.
He was 84 when he died and was just about to start another concert tour. Unless we expect everyone to live to over 100, I’d say he did pretty well. 🙂
Magnifico.😭
RIP Gordon…..I will cary on….Thank You
Could NBC possibly dwell on the negative even more? The Los Angeles mention is wrong twice. It was Ian Tyson and his wife Sylvia Fricker who helped Lightfoot make the transition to the US market successfully and not the Lightfoot’s mere presence in that key music industry city. Lightfoot’s reason for being in LA in the early 1960s was to attend music college (and he met his first wife there too) but he became well known in Canada first.
Gordon had a music style like no other — The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is my favorite — I cannot imagine anyone else singing this song so well.
RIP Gord’s Gold – your Music will live-on forever. Your songs have touched-us-all.
I’m Canadian and he was born in Orillia, Ontario about an hour and a half north of Toronto. His songs are like a story, history here in Canada. He will be missed by many of his fans who bought millions of his records. His music lives always on our speakers.
RIP
We lost a legend and one of the world’s greatest songwriters
Bye bye, Gordy.. May you and the Edmund Fitzgerald sail the great lakes together..
R.I.P. BROTHER…
sundown is here…,
We got him!
Legendary?
Forever in our hearts, and eternally Canadian. 😢
To see him on the street I would not have recognized him, untill he spoke, that voice never failed him.
❤🎸🇨🇦
This is a sweet tribute to an awesome singer/ songwriter! Thank you!
Icon ..
Loved his music since my older sister put it on the turntable.
On May Day 2023 you went away, today we’ve all been crying all day!
.
Thanks for the pictures you painted in your writing.
We’ll be singing them in your memory for Eternity.
You are, our National Poet and so much more than that.
You gave us Canadian identity with passion and integrity.
The Edmund Fitzgerald, and so many more.
Bless your heart and Soul, Gordon, you our Troubadour from The Great White North!
His music has been the soundtrack of my life for over 50 years.
Now I’m sitting here in tears, in Toronto, the morning after the day He passed!
🕊💞⚘🇨🇦🎼🎸🎶
Been a fan since my friend John Condon Introduced me to his music in the late 60s. My daughter got me his last Vynil record for Christmas 2022 Gordon Lightfoot ‘solo’ recorded in 2020. Rest in Peace my musical friend.
RIP Mister Rock of Ages !
One of the greatest singer-songwriters of the 20th century. This man could move the soul to places both beautiful and sad. A true musical genius. Hope to see you in heaven some day, Brother.
Sad news feel the same as when I heard about john denver s death greetings from ireland,
A Yank writes: Surely Gordie belongs mentioned with the Greatest of the Great of that greatest of all musical periods; the 1960s and 1970s. Right up there with the Beatles, CCR, and Stones etc, etc. Thank YOU Gordon Lightfoot for all the world’s pain you temporarily freed us from with your incredibly gifted music. Canadians have REAL reason to be exceptionally proud of this exceptional human being….
A true Canadian icon. You will be missed by loving hearts.
RIP Gorden – his music will live on forever
I hate getting older. God is summoning more of his angels to sing in the heavenly choir
What an amazing person and talent he was! I’ve been listening and enjoying his music since the 70s. RIP Gordon Lightfoot 😢😢
I grew up hearing my parents play their Lightfoot CDs all the time on friday and saturday nights and have associated so many memories and emotions with his music. He will be missed. Rest in peace Gordon.
My best friend absolutely loved Gordon Lightfoot. After she died I would hold on to memories every time I heard his songs. RIP, Gordon.

The Flowless Silos
Racing, Through, the Flowless Silos, of the Night
Flowesssly, Ammasing, each, God like particle, through the Awe inspiring, Kingdom of Heaven. Yahshua, our creator, puts your Heart at Ease, through this Trinity of Life, and Spiritual Divinity.
Flowesssly, meandering, through the hilltops of space-time.
Siftering and Vectoring through, every cumulus cloud, on the opposite side, of, the Red and Bright nebula, Never quite, finding Unity, or, Equilibrium, until, A, violent eddy-current, begins to devour, it’s neighboring, Solar system.
Your Heart, Pitter-Patters, through this, diatribe, of cosmic bliss, but, never quite understanding, your Chi spirit, through the hilltops, of space-time.
The faster, your heart flutters, the more incessant you become, for eternal bliss, and unity, through, the chaotic, Flowless Silos of the Night.
Your, Essence, has, never quite captured, the eternal energy, eternally chaotic Flow, through, the Silos, of the Night.
Your, Spirit, Flows freshly, but, still, never quite gravitating, through, the hilltops of space-time. Never quite, finding Unity, through, this universal life, we call, the Flowless Silos.

IN THE TOP 10 BEST SONG WRITERS OF ALL TIME , MOST EXPERTS SAY BETWEEN 5-7 . ❤❤ NO CANADIAN SONG WRITER EVEN COMES CLOSE TO GORDON . WROTE MORE THAN 226 SONGS ALL HIS OWN.
NO OTHER SONG WRITER IN MUSIC HISTORY CAN MAKE A CLAIM EVEN CLOSE TO THIS, OVER 6 DECADES.
Gordon Lightfoot was a brilliant songwriter, singer and guitarist, whose music I love, but he did not write more songs than any “other songwriter in music history.” Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Dolly Parton each have easily double that. Doesn’t dimimish Gordon’s accomplishments in any way, just an incorrect and unnecessary claim. 🙂
GOD SPEED 🇨🇦🎶 my daddy is looking forward to jammin again 🙏 🌏
GOD BLESS YOU GORDON LIGHTFOOT 🙏
See ya tomorrow 🇨🇦🌏🇨🇦
I’ve had his CD on in the car for the last 2 months. What a wonderful musician and songwriter. Love to his family and friends at this time. He made me laugh, cry and dance. ❤❤
❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
RIP Gordon. I grew up listening to his music in the 70’s. I do not know which of his songs is my favorite because I just love them all. My heart broke a little when I heard he passed. Rest in Peace. Thank you for your music. You were loved by many.
Loved him as a Kid … STILL DO …….. ALWAYS WILL
THERE WILL BE NONE OTHER….HE WAS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT 👏
Well done Gord! RIP. Rock on heavenly, friend.❤
He brought joy to the world RIP Gordon Lightfoot.
🙋🏼♀ R.I.P
RIP GORDON. THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT MUSIC
Bryan Cranston could play him from his 40s to the end, should be a movie.
His best THE LAST TIME I SAW HER, AFFAIR ON EIGHT AVE
Legend
❤❤ Goodnight Gordon ❤❤
I loved the guy’s voice and his music was great my sister Linda and I saw him at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford CT over 25 years ago. I was sad when I heard that he passed away and it was nice that he kept in contact with the families who lost lived ones in the Edmund Fitzgerald wreck.
RIP to a Canadian legend. 🙏🏾
One of the greats — one of the greatest!
❤Such a wonderful singer.
Early morning rain is a absolute GEM
I’m relatively young for this music and I’m not at all Canadian, but I loved Gordon Lightfoot since I discovered him in the Live 8 concert of 2005. Then I realized that some of the songs of Peter, Paul and Mary that I used to listen were actually his. Rest in peace Sir, you’re a legend.
Another legend fades to black
As a very young child I marveled at his songs – the lyrics and melodies – and I knew then he was on a different plane. Rest in peace, Gordon Lightfoot 💝
If you could read my mind you’d know that I’m so sad that you are gone, but know your music will live on 🩵
🤘🏻😔🎸 🥃
Thank you so much for your incredible contributions to music Mr. Lightfoot.
He was our Mozart.
Is that Gordon or Nancy Pelosi?
He was 🇨🇦Our best !🕺🎸🎙🎶🌤👍
I love 💕 u thank you for filling our hearts ❤️ for eternity ✨🙏
On tour as recently as last month, more or less right to the end. What a legend.
That So Sad☹.
Seriously… you can’t even compare this to 4 chords vamp modern music
Canada is closed today , death in the family .
An amazing talent has left us one that can never be replaced. It’s with a heavy heart that I bid him farewell.
Thank you for such great stories Gordon.
Beautiful music
Sundown was one of my all time favorite songs. Rest, Mr. Lightfoot. Ya did good.
Canadian Railroad Trilogy tells the story of the construction of Canadian Pacific Railway.
One of my all-time favorite recording artists; I’ve been listening to him since the early 70’s. His lyrics were absolutely first-rate, and in his performances he treated them with the care they deserved. (U.S. fan but with the greatest respect for Canadian music.)
“The minstrel of the dawn is gone, I hope he’ll call before too long. And if you meet him, you might be the victim of his minstrelsy. He’ll sing for you a song, the minstrel … of the dawn.”
More people need to hear his music.
Glen Campbell did an awesome version of Gordon’s song “The last time I saw her.” You people should check it out. Nonetheless, now they can sing the song together. Rest in peace, Gordon. We’ll miss you! Us Americans join your beloved Canadians in mourning your loss.
Lightfoot was a spectacular musical genius. His writing was great, his guitar playing was great and his voice was great. He even looked gorgeous. There was no one else with his talent and it’s sad that he’s gone. But his music is still here and that’s more than most of us can claim.
Enjoyed his music growing up. RIP.
Another great singer song writer has passed.
Thank you Mr Lightfoot.
Your Journey has just begun.
Maybe more people will get into another of his songs – Black Day in July. About a different kind of American tragedy.
