In San Francisco, where two major companies are testing driverless taxis, some local officials are reporting that the vehicles have caused a number of issues, including rolling into fire scenes and running over hoses. NBC News’ Jake Ward reports.

#SanFrancisco #DriverlessCars #Cars
Driverless cars are just gadgetbahns anyways. Use the money to make bus and rapid transit systems in these Silicon Valley cities.
Some motorcycle riders have been hit & killed by driverless cars while waiting at traffic lights.
Oh my! Is it safe to assume they did not take driving lessons from KITT. 😆
none of these are TESLAS LOL
THAT’S WHY TESLA IS THE BEST 👌
They are safer? Aren’t they only within city limits in places at low speeds? Imagine it dealing with first responders on high speed interstates.
Lol. Focus on public transport, cycle lanes, not stupid cars
I would NEVER ride in one of these! Actually causing traffic jams? Blocking emergency vehicles from doing their job? What’s wrong with having a human drive you somewhere?
Who couldn’t have seen this coming. Driverless cars will become outlawed before gasoline-powered cars are outlawed. Being driven by people with a driver’s license
So where’s the comparison with the number of problems caused by human drivin cars to emergency vehicles and public transportation taking into account the number of each type of driver. One sided statistics don’t tell you anything.
not ready for prime time just like the cigars crappy
It would be funny if they found out that it was just one particular car that caused all those complaints deliberately because the robot didn’t like driving. 🙂
Let me get this right. Theres no law against driverless cars?
Blame Dedsec
Happened to me on o’Farrell street and Stockton cruise car just stopped on a green light for no reason I had to backup and go around it. Luckily wasn’t busy at night time
I took one around Sydney and it was a smooth ride
This is going swimmingly /s
So ridiculous… it will never work… anyone that sits in a driverless vehicle is an imbecile.
Good job, San Francisco! This is right up there with reparations as far as dumb 💩💩 proposed in California!
This is the least of san Francisco’s problems 😅
Cars should be banned from large parts of the city anyways
Just go play a video game an turn the bots on an you will see why ai can dominate the world
These are giving all autonomous driving developers a bad name.
Why?
2:03 that pause .. he mightve looked into his database for what to reply to that query.
This technology is only making stupid people more lazy and lazy people more idiotic. Its not convenient.
I think trains are still the answer to traffic, not self driving cars.
The problem is that you can just Ask a computer “What are you doing?” “Can you Please move out of the way” or tell it to Stop. Computers do not speak English
Dangerous
What this news report omits is how many of those 911 calls are from human drivers. See, self driving cars don’t have to be perfect, they just have to be better than you. Unlike people, these vehicles can be upgraded. Some reports are already giving some self driving cars to be 10 times safer than the average driver. Statistics are easily fudged, but the fact remains. If it isn’t there yet, it’s an eventuality it will be. AI is getting exponentially better, and general AI is coming.
The future is promising
Either the reporter is extremely tall or that waymo chief security person is extremely short
Who is even patronizing these vehicles? I literally wouldn’t ever go near one, ever.
Terminator coming to end this
Can’t wait till one of these cars drives someone off a bridge or something
Today I almost got hit by one of those vehicles making a left .. if I didn’t hit my brakes we would’ve collided
It’s infuriating that these companies get to use public roads as test tracks without any public consent.
@PeugeotRocket Sure but were is the liability for every accident or problem they cause?
@PeugeotRocket as I said above I’m basing my opinion from personal experience. I’m a pedestrian, cyclist, driver, and resident on a main route of those carbots in SF. I’m not against companies’ development but not without balanced levels of permission from those living on the roads they’re using. I’m done. Grow up dude.
@Kell Harris Japan, Germany, and a few others have already implemented laws governing the regulatory processes for driverless cars. Germany, by the way, is the only country where you can buy a road approved car with autonomous driving capabilities (level three so far). While others make a big fuss about their prototypes, Mercedes already sells production line cars with level three autonomy. Level four is only a matter of time. But unlike megalomaniac creeps like Musk, they don’t promise what they can’t deliver. Their “Drive Pilot” is not a pimped up lane departure warning system, unlike Musk’s “Autopilot” which has already killed several people…
@Orbital Jellyfish Telling the guy resisting irrational fear mongering and knee jerk reactions while advocating personal liberty and free enterprise to grow up is not a good look kid.
You’re a cyclist? You realize how many people can’t stand you guys right? Maybe we should get a vote on whether we share the road with you.
Of course not. That would be absurd. Just like the notion that you should get a say in other people using the road.
The fact is that while per million miles driven autonomous vehicles may get into slightly more accidents than normal vehicles, most of those are minor. There are far a fewer major accident that happened with autonomous vehicles. So allowing people to having people who are ignorant about technology and the reality of the situation to stop progress is not acceptable
@Kell Harris There definitely is. It is going to depend on the country and state though. Just do a Google search.
The liability will rest with the vehicle owner if the autonomous vehicle is at fault, just like how it is now with normal vehicles.
Misinformation? I didn’t see any evidence of accidents caused by autonomous vehicles, only a biased newscaster, who appears negative towards change.
Self driving cars are dangerous and need to be banned from the streets.
Not accidents, crashes. Vehicle crashes and collisions.
Driverless cars is so stupid!
Won’t happen for Tesla
Remember, people, this is “progress” 😅
We’re not ready for Johnny Cabs.
No one complained of herbie.
I can’t believe no one saw this coming. Sue the State. Enough is enough. Unbelievable.
A year 2000 released anime Ex-driver is based in a world were all the cars are autonomous and controlled by AI. The story revolves around specialist drivers called Ex-drivers who drives manual cars deputized to take care of autonomous cars that went dangerously rouge. Can’t believe that anime will become a reality soon.
Dont think this things work in Malaysia.. the driver here were like angel outside the car once they get in the car they would become devil. Nice approach tho but with so many impatient driver is hard to implement.
In India Driver’s themselves create chaos😭😭😭
The problem isn’t the autonomous cars. The problem is the fire truck drivers not being autonomous.
Time humans got off the road.
they need to be taken off the road.
When you live in clown world
I’ve long suspected some of the issues that driverless cars face is due to the programmers not being good drivers themselves. In my experience, the buggiest code is written by programmers who have never actually used the code they’re writing on a daily basis 😂
Great point!
Technology driverless cars just steamrolling San Francisco’
This is the future. The main issue now is the cars need to learn very hard to drive with people around for the near future. If the streets dedicated to autonomous cars only, we’d have the efficiency like subways, trains and elevators.
The companies who make robot cars should be liable.
People who think driverless cars won’t work are idiots, look at Tesla. Zero intervention while driving for 6h just 2 days ago, and they keep updating their system, these idiots think that the technology is not there because they dont understand it
Absolutely NONE of what they are complaining about is worse than some HUMAN drivers that I’ve seen.
“on their way to being safer than humans” 😆 yeah if we program them to creep along at 25 miles per hour and stop at all lights that could be made if it all possible. Block all traffic and cause THEM to crash.
Here’s the facts: Once deaths become statistically lower due to a connected driverless network, It’s over, you won’t be able to drive your own car without paying a premium to do it.
if emergency vehicles were impeded by autonomous vehicles and the emergency has done more damage (like fire to a structure), perhaps the companies responsible for putting these emergency vehicles should be made to pay for the damages and repairs
electric cabs (taxis) should be a global thing and i hope oneday it goes up a level to electric Aviation.
“Let’s see who’s driving this!”
*looks at the car window*
“Nobody is driving!”
“But how did it drive by itself? It cannot be a ghost!”
“That’s because it’s a driverless car!”
I can’t wait for Ai drivers
I still trust these driverless vehicles more than the average US driver.
Tesla fanbois: tesla is semiautonomous. (Still requires two hands on wheel and a driver)
Other unknown companies: hold my camera.
Do they have a license? No, so get them into jail and confiscate the cars.
Hard to stay focused as an engineer living in Cali . Because of the madness going on there .
This reminds me of the Star Wars Andor with the DROIDS going crazy on civilians if I remember correctly lol
For liability alone these should have a driver behind the wheel.
This kind of stuff being added to our society should be voted on.
Get them off the road.
We are getting robot cars before we get universal healthcare even with a democrat president and democrat majority
The appocolypse is stupid people investing in stupid things and hoping for brilliant results
Better public transportation is the solution to traffic not this nonsense
First one that gets in my way is getting smashed with a bat
What a terrible report. Don’t tell me how many 911 calls per day are for robot cars unless you’re gonna compare with how many 911 calls per day for human drivers. The only reason robot accidents are newsworthy is because they are so rare.
Wake up people
California is the epitome of corruption.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂😂🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣😂
Just the thought behind a driverless anything is ridiculous. Create jobs, not destroy them. Coming from someone who could use one. Thanks
Failure project since day one!
‘
*A POS* 💩 !!!
What’s the point of a driverless car
They are not going to learn much in the future because they will be outlawed !!!
Yes, crazy😅
In other words nothing has changed.
I don’t think these robo car companies give a think about safety. I think they simply don’t want to pay drivers to do the jobs. While I have nothing personal against riding in one, I’d sooner ride with a person and help pay a person who needs the money instead of the greedy corporation who only wants to pay themselves.
I will not be riding in a driverless car, ever.
Holy crap. How short is that guy at 2:00 ?
When folly fails.
Oh well.
After watching this video autonomous vehicles or actually driving better than humans right now 🤣 because you all drive like morons 😂
Autonomous cars are the worst idea ever, there’s already a s..t load of bad drivers and somehow we need to add more without drivers…lol
We are taking laziness to a whole new level… good idea to try to make humans less responsible for their actions or lack of….
These real-world incidents are a good thing because they help engineers to improve the software to make better autonomous vehicles. This research will eventually be good for all of us. All new technology is a pain in the @ in the beginning. Like it or not, autonomous cars are here to stay. They are the future and will eventually be a source of transportation for a majority of Americans from busses, trains, cars, and limousines. Most people don’t know that most airplanes are already autonomous. This is our future get used to it.
Shouldn’t there still be a driver at the driver seat to oversee operation? ?.?
Attorneys get ready to sue for delay in emergency response due to these incidents!
There’s a very simple solution, drag them off with a tow truck
Just saw a video where a driverless car was stopped by the police and then sped away. Think about the poor police! They don’t have anybody to shoot anymore! OK, if it’s an UBER or a taxi, they could still shoot the passengers. But is that as satisfactory as killing the driver? I don’t think so!
Over 42.000 dead in vehicle accidents in 2022 and more than 48.000 dead from gun related injuries based on 2021 figures. Seems that Death by Second Amendment is more popular than not wearing a seat belt and being cut to shreds as you pass through the windscreen.
A recent survey was given to adult Americans asking if corp media was responsible for the division in America, 75% agreed with nbc and of course msnbc leading the way.
