I never understood why first world countries continue to hurt themselves by trying to help more than they can. Of course, the U.S has a moral obligation to look after as many people as they can. But if you go beyond your capability to do so, you are destorying yourself and negatively impacting your own civilians which should be your priority. Furthermore, the source of the issues which cause illegal immigrations are just prolonged when people flee them instead of facing them. Yes, people even in large numbers may not be able to topple systematic opressions and injustices. And no country could practically “police” another. But as sad as it is maybe at some point its more reasonable to accept a “luck of the draw” mentality while doing all we realistically can to help.
