What’s so odd is that no reporter asked why her board had NO woman. Holmes is a very bad person, she’s a fake and she’s heartless. Get her off the streets. Interesting only as a psychological case study. Ms. Holmes had the privilege of having race serve as a financial asset. Let’s imagine for the sake of argument, that Elizabeth Holmes were an African American woman. The entire scenario would not have happened.

Why does she always have to open her eyes so wide? Usually it’s the animals, especially those who can’t speak, would do that to make up for the lack of other means to communicate (ie hands, mouth, etc.)
Yahoo Finance gives airtime to all the Elizabeth Holmes fanboys, with Warmenhoven being the biggest. His opinion that “it was all doable, there wasn’t anything that could not be resolved” is both incredibly naïve and shows just how uneducated he is in the biochemical space. The chemistry of blood is orders of magnitude more complex than storing 0’s and 1’s (until one dives into quantum computing). Just because something sounds good, it does not mean someone like Holmes can waste one billion dollars in investor money through blatant fraudulent practices. Holmes was rightly found guilty by the SEC (fined and has a 10 year ban) and found guilty of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, each punishable by up to 20 year jail sentences. Go stick that in your pipe!
Steve, Paul, Bill, etc, dropped out of college to go work on computers, they might have failed but they did not, and if they did, it would not have killed anybody. Elizabeth dropped out of MED SCHOOL and tried to revolutionize the lab industry. It makes NO SENSE to compare how they all dropped out and Elizabeth *could have maybe possibly* made it. SHE LITERALLY WANTED TO BE MORE THAN A DOCTOR WITH NO DIPLOMAS. I DON’T UNDERSTAND. HOW DID PEOPLE GIVE HER MONEY. WTF. I’ve watched and read so much on Theranos and this was the best summary I’ve seen. To sum up:
1) Holmes’ fraudulent “fake it til you make it” leadership is accepted practice in venture capital startups.
2) She was prosecuted because her developmental “fake” actually endangered real people’s lives–which could have been avoided by more honesty, even if that meant delays.
3) Ignorance is an explanation, not an excuse for criminal fraud.
Moral of the story? Just because everyone else jumps off a bridge, doesn’t mean you should, too. A dumb idea (lying) is always a dumb idea–especially when it’s illegal.
I have a “vision” too. It’s called faster than light travel. It’s probably “do-able” one day, I’ll invent a machine and name all the parts and even patent some of them in the ridiculous US patent office that will give a patent for zilch. And then I’ll get millions of dollars and rip people off with my “dream” and my “vision” and people will talk about admiring my vision and my dream and still not acknowledge they’ve been defrauded. Some major opinions were missing unfortunately but I bet the investors first were happy with Holmes on all the magazines and the media attention their investment or bet had gotten but later they forgot about it. Gunn and Ionidis summed it up right that the visionary is needed and should not face prison but the IP has to be reviewed better and that the board as representatives of the investors has to take more responsible than today.
Wonder how Sam Bankman Fried will be judged for a vision and then stealing. Quite the opposite of Holmes even though she had made mistakes for sure but mistake and crime are 2 stories. Considering that 2 hours were not enough to get the full picture the fine line between fraud and vision will be even finer than we thought.

I don’t agree with everything Elizabeth Holmes’s detractors say. I do not understand why it does not work in her favor a great mitigating factor: Elizabeth is not a racist woman. As proof of this, she had a long relationship with Sammy Balwani, a much older Indian millionaire, short, chubby and not at all handsome. This speaks well of Elizabeth. Likewise, she received US 25M from Carlos Slim, an old, fat, short and unattractive billionaire. Apart from not being racist at all, she also doesn’t discriminate against anyone because of his nationality. .Elizabeth is a good woman. So good that a hotel chain heir much younger than her, chose her to procreate two children. Elizabeth was born into the US aristocracy, where she deserves to be. Not in a prison.

I knew nothing of this when it was in full swing, but, as a lab technician with a good amount of knowledge in the diverse variety in the types of equipment that is essential for running test’s I’m quite sure I would have had a profound sense of preposterous impossibility as to the nuts and bolts of this device, that and the other “in your face” alarming things like the Bill Jobs copycat stuff , the voice, that’s also a well known historical affectation, and the jewel in the crown of all this would have been, should have been, the R&D department, I’ve seen quite a few research labs and they are NOT clean pristine orderly places like an analytical lab or process lab, they are always saturated in components and equipment in various states of assembly and papers and kit strewn everywhere, she must have done her best to keep technical minded types well clear of what goes on under the hood…
