The CEO of Mubadala, Khaldoon Al Mubarak speaks to CNBC’s Hadley Gamble in a wide ranging interview. The Abu Dhabi investor in chip giant GlobalFoundries sees exponential growth for the industry.
“It took 50 years for the semiconductor business to turn into a half a trillion-dollar business. It’s going to take probably eight to 10 years to double. And it’s going to double right after that, probably in four to five years,” Khaldoon Al Mubarak told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble in an exclusive interview.

Mr Mubarak is 100% very smart and articulate. He 100% deserves some of the credit for the progress the UAE has made over the last 10 years.
The UAE has navigated a very difficult geopolitical environment near perfectly. It has kept both its own citizens and immigrants happy during many tight financial periods.
No doubt, there are still many gaps between the UAE and western nations in education, healthcare, and technology. But the UAE has taken a very humble approach to its own development.
There is definitely a sincere and persistent attempt in building a sustainable and advanced economy and society. Singapore should always be the goal.
The government of UAE and advisors like Mubarak should also make sure they keep convincing Saudi and now Qatar and Kuwait to join them. The Gulf lacks a lot in cooperation and it needs strong cities like Doha, Riddiyah and Jeddah to be a world leader.
