Russia has said its forces thwarted a major Ukrainian offensive in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk, killing 250 Ukrainian troops and destroying tanks and armoured vehicles.
“On the morning of June 4, the enemy launched a large-scale offensive in five sectors of the front in the South Donetsk direction,” the Russian defence ministry said on its Telegram channel early on Monday.

The Ukrainian counteroffensive is destined to fail because Ukraine has simply not received the amount of weapons and ammunitions it needs! For this counteroffensive to be successful Ukraine needs close air support fighters like the F16, they need air defence, they need a large number of tanks, men and artillery. Ukraine does have enough of all of these things to continue to defend their territory and keep the Russians at bay but not indifinitely and certainly not to enough to mount some game changing counter offensive.
I don’t know. The Ukraine supporters know that it is crucial to provide the country with what is needed in order to make it happen, so I believe that Ukraine is being secretly given a lot of equipment for the counter-offensive and the general public is unaware of it. The reason? If Ukraine fails badly, NATO will have to step in directly because as Poland minister said, they can’t let Russia win. Now NATO is not really willing to do that, so they must use the Ukrainians for it.

Getting stuck in a fortified line is a death sentence for Ukrainian soldiers. They would get pummeled and decimated by Russian artillery and airstrikes.
