underlying technology isn’t GPU per se. and the volume for inference is higher than training. but whatever.
Sounds like AMD needs to reverse engineer CUDA, if that’s legal to do.
it is legal, but they apparently have been able to for the last 5 years. might take more time than that

both companies are going to be winners. The markets for them both are endless.
Currently, it’s not even close. AMD is aspiring to do AI. Nvidia AI hardware and CUDA software platform is the industry standard. While everyone else is trying to catch up, Nvidia is already working on hundreds of other technologies of the future.
AMD will stay on a good spot, they have products which can compete. But even if Nvidea loses market share they will grow and stay number one. Chances for innovations are very likely in coming months and years.
