Why YouTube is blowing up in India | The Listening Post

Why Indians are turning to Youtube: There is no media landscape anywhere like India’s – almost 400 television news channels, broadcasting in 20 languages. Indians are also YouTube’s biggest audience – and its fastest-growing – and the platform has become a vital source of news for them.
Well-known Indian journalists have abandoned prime-time TV slots in favour of Youtube. They have more freedom online to report on politics and social issues – at least for now.
The spectre of censorship is growing, under a government that clamps down on news coverage it doesn’t like.

The Listening Post’s Meenakshi Ravi reports on India’s YouTube boom and how – despite the misinformation – it has become a primary source of news.
