It’s amazing how many people really do not care about the justice system and thi k whatever govt says is absolute and should be considered biblical. Presidential records act is all you need to study. Maybe the Smith-mundt act as well. Educate yourself before just jumping on the orange man bad zombie train. If you can’t make critical educated decisions for yourself and require being told what to think your not fit to vote. If your brainwashed to think democrat is the party of peace and republican bad then you had a poor education. There is a multi party system for a reason, not a tyrannical single party dictatorship like the left is acting as currently. So I take it you’ve actually never read the PRA. It doesn’t say what Trump claims it does. How does it even make sense that, in the wake of watergate, congress got together and created a law that allows a president to take whatever he wants? What would be the point. As a matter of fact, it was created so Nixon couldn’t take and hide documents relating to watergate.
And what exactly does the Smith Mundt act have to do this? Or ar you just throwing out the name of some random law?
We waited since 2016 for some of his crimes because he was president now that he is not and has more crimes to face up to there is no time to delay he created the crimes so he knows his crimes there is no time needed to prepare.

I think the December date is a reasonable target for the prosecution, but I don’t think that will happen. I also don’t think Cannon will give in to Trump and delay this until after the election either. I believe this case may go to trial maybe in February or March 2024.
Given the amount of discovery, I’d have to say pushing it back to early next year is reasonable. Smith probably expected as much. But March would be problematic for TFG. He’s got court appearances in NY that month. I doubt if Merchan will push it back
@Francis Hurley The amount of discovery is misleading. The thousands of other documents he stole are irrelevant to both sides. The prosecution can’t use them, because they aren’t at issue, and trump can’t use them because they just make him guiltier. That just leaves Cell records and Witness interviews, which is fairly manageable on any time-frame. Frankly, anyone but trump and I would expect the August trial date to stand. There is very little that is actually in dispute between the prosecution and the defense.

There’s trump’s actual word for word defense in his own impeachment trial where his lawyers argued that stealing the Ukraine Aid and using it to compel them to slander Biden wasn’t a crime “if he thought it was in the interest of the country.”
There’s the Republican Texas AG who has been under indictment for securities fraud, bribery, corruption; an ongoing case over the past 7 years. (though the DOJ did finally step in there aswell)
There’s Ron DeSantis, who’s health department issued fraudulent COVID data to the CDC every week during the pandemic (starting around aug 2019) to attempt to hide the numbers, risking lives, and actually arrested a whistle-blower for outing him. (Also guilty of kidnapping.)
There’s the Fake electors scheme participated in by more than a few Republicans attempting to subvert the 2020 election.

How about instead of putting the trial aside until after the election… put his campaign aside until after the trial? One of the main reasons this will drag out is that Trump’s lawyers are dragging it out. The trial and verdict could likely be reached well before the first primary vote is cast. That gives Trump time to either benefit from a not guilty verdict or repair the damages from a guilty verdict (assuming his sentence doesn’t involve jail time).
Of course, if any other of the 330M Americans stole classified documents, we’d get jail time – even if it wasn’t willingly retained.

Usually by virtue of geographical boundaries, laws have always been contextual. What’s unlawful within one boundary may be lawful in another. However, what Trump seems to be trying to do – and will do if he’s elected – is legitimize demographic boundaries. For example, if you are in a wealthy demographic or if you’re a politician, he claims the laws shouldn’t apply. If this doesn’t scare us into voting, don’t we deserve to become Trump’s submissive subjects?
It’s a hugely complicated case so they better get busy.

I hereby announce that I am running for the Presidential election of 2060. Since I am now a candidate, I cannot be tried for any crimes I commit until after the election.
The easy counter argument is that anyone running for president, no matter their crimes, should not be tried until after the election, which is clearly farce. If not, then whatever perceived crimes Biden has committed, he should be allowed to just let go of. That’s obviously not the way that’s supposed to happen.
Any normal defendant would be in jail waiting to stand trial. He’s already getting special treatment. He needs to be held accountable for all his crimes.
